Who runs cut down lone wolfs?

Cutting down LW sticks is a great option. But if you didn't drill any holes then that says to me that you kept the top two steps and chopped off the bottom. The versa button would then be right in the middle of your short stick, but it should really be 2/3's of the way up the stick like all the manufacturers do. Less chance of the stick kicking out with the versa button up higher. There's a reason they put the button up there...

I did this but removed the hardware and reinstalled "upside down". Before reinstalling the hardware the versa button was actually "below" the halway mark of the stick. Now it is atleast above the centerline if the stick. I've been climbing and they have been very solid so far.

Word to the wise, check your straps! I just happened to notice after a climb last night that one of my stick straps is cut and needs to be replaced IMMEDIATELY. Don't be an idiot like me.... check your straps!

Sounds better but still not in the optimal location that the engineers determined in designing these sticks. It's up to you to weigh the risks.

Ya I'm good with it. Engineers tend to over think everything IME lol. Besides I've been climbing for a long time and these are as solid as it gets so far.

No I didn’t. It may have been just me but I didn’t like having to mess with the half hitch after the wrap. I just wanna unhook and roll. And in the dark it was just a hassle for myself.
I’m debating getting the rope mod or just using the stock straps.

I have 3 regular lone wolf sticks and am debating cutting them down. I just ordered some rope from doublestep to do the rope mod. But when I was looking at the versa button they seem pretty weak. Should I change them for something more rigid? Or do the original versa buttons on the LW sticks work?

I’m using the doublestep rope mods and love them. With stock versa buttons.

I cut mine, full video of it on my YouTube. Much better cut.

I watched the video. Why do you go three wide as opposed to nested in the versa buttons? Is it due to the cut down versions not have the hole for them to fit?

I ended up buying a fourth and modding them even more. Now the stand offs can sit vertical and they stack perfectly in line (side to side). Way less bulky and kind of along the lines of the custom gear sticks. The bolts with wingnuts make them tight and quiet as well. Thanks for watching! I might do an updated video now that you mention it.

Has anyone found a way to stack horizontally while having double steps?
