I’m new to the saddle thing and didn’t know what options to add when my saddle was made. With my dump pouch loaded down it feels like it sags. So yesterday started playing around and added these suspenders. Cut the buckles off of the front and it made it easy to just slip my belt through.

I'm toying with the idea of combining a load bearing vest (LBV) with my saddle. It would give the benefit of suspenders for long walks and would eliminate the need for a backpack. Still haven't found what I'm looking for though.

I've used LBVs before and am less of a fan than I used to be. The temptation is to load up all the MOLLE panels with pouches and whatnot, and the pouches cost more than they need to, and they're rarely the right size for what you're trying to hold. The trouble is that no matter how light you make MOLLE, it's going to be heavier and bulkier than a simple, appropriately-sized pocket sewn on to a vest. Another thing is, with your vest attached to your gun belt, you have an almost all-or-nothing torso covering. Maybe it was because I went with a cheap vest, but snapping the belt keepers to the belt while I was wearing them both was more of a hassle than I needed it to be, and if I wanted to take my vest off because it was hot, or my belt off for whatever reason, I had to go through the whole rigamarole every time and wound up keeping them separate, with occasional suspenders underneath. In this application, I think I'd rather be able to move my vest and whatever tools I have attached to it to the tree, rather than having it on me all day. I just think that would get uncomfortable.

I wound up going with a cheap turkey vest. Since I don't have a bunch of pouches on my Treehopper Recon I don't need suspenders for it, but if I went that route I think I'd just use light elastic suspenders guys are posting from Duluth Trading - I think the actual brand is Perry.

I also picked up a trap and skeet vest, with lots of mesh and a few pockets, with the idea that I could dye it "camo" and sew in channels or something to affix it to my XOP saddle/harness getup. I haven't done that yet but it's still a viable option.

Which is not meant to convince you not to this - you might really like what you come up with.

I used the padded shoulder straps from a military vest and sewed 1 inch tubular webbing to attach my saddle with some short webbing loops sewn to the saddle and Latitude webbing hooks so I can remove it easily if needed. I put a couple of stitches to hold my back band to the webbing straps in the back also. I haven't wanted to remove it so far.20220624_101515.jpg

I bought the Tethred Suspenders and wish there were a little more robust or had a chest strap Any recommendations?

I had some First Lite’s kicking around from a pair of pants, but there was nowhere to attach the G-hook. I ended up buying some cheap Amazon molle attachments and removed the D ring to use the webbing.

I added suspenders to my battle belt, allows me to load just about anything on the belt with out sagging. I don’t have anything on my saddle anymore. Another benefit is when I ground hunt I just throw on the battle belt and I’m good to go.

I bought some a couple months ago. I think it’s going to be the best add on I’ve ever tried. No more sag when sticks are hooked on during the climb!

I had mine out today, covered over a mile with my XC and first light suspenders with zero sag. I just need a better way to attach them to the molle loops

I use the First Lite suspenders and I kick myself for not using them sooner! They make all of the difference for the long walks in.

I picked up a pair of suspenders at a Fleet Farm a few months ago and I love them. Cheep!! 10 bucks. 2 “ nylon super easy walking. Keeps the saddle from hanging down when walking. A funky camo pattern but who cares. I can easily step thru my adjustable bridge when I put them over my first shoulder strap. Brand is by Camas Designs out of Idaho. Hope that helps. Take care.

I typically wear suspenders with my pants, so not sure how comfy it would be to have a pair on my saddle too. Thought about it, just haven’t tried it yet.

I bought the Tethrd suspenders. It came with several options for attachments.

When I ordered my tx5 I had them sow in suspender loops.

Therefore I’m not using the Tethrd attachments. If you want them I’ll give ‘em to you.

That would be awesome! I was just looking on Amazon. But I’ll give those a shot, obviously I’ll cover your shipping expenses.
