Who uses thumb releases? What do you like?

I keep mine on while walking around the 3d course all the time with no problem. Wouldn't trust it walking in to hunt but I think it will work really well in the tree keeping it positioned on the bow.
Yeah, it's good for in the tree, but mine will pop off just walking from where I shot to the target 30 yrds away.

Thanks for all the feedback ! It’s helped and just cool to hear what everyone is using. I have small hands so I’m taking that into account as well. I’m leaning towards the hot shot eclipse, hot shot x spot, carter wise choice, or Carter first choice. Anyone prefer the finger hole built into the rest?

I use the Stan Shootoff 4 finger to hunt. Love it.. also have a Stan Element for back tension practice in off season if I ever feel like I’m trying to press the thumb instead of pulling through.

My first thumb release (after many years of shooting a wrist strap caliper) was the Scott Exxus, which I liked it a lot. But I eventually settled on the Stan SX3 four finger. Super nice to shoot! My accuracy improved measurably when I started using it earlier this year.

I read one review about Stan having bad customer service. It was only one bad review but my biggest pet peeve is not standing behind a product. I assume you Stan guys haven’t had any issues with your release to know though.

I have never had a single issue with anything I’ve owned from them. It’s always been top notch.

I’m really liking the perfex. I can get it in a medium so it would fit my hand better. And it’s so adjustable. But it’s expensive. I’m pretty narrowed down to a few Carter’s and the perfex

For all you guys using a thumb release. I recommend purchasing a total peep release holder. It works really well. Keeps your release secure while clipped to the loop.

Didn’t know those existed, thank you! My only concern is how cold it could get in the winter. I hold mine inside my gloves with a hand warmer. But I think I’m going to get one.

I recently sold a couple thumb releases and I liked them but wanted a better one. So I’m now looking at the carters, Scott sigma, or hot shot releases. I like that the carter and hot shot has a lock button that can be manipulated with one hand if needed. But I might be making it a bigger issue than it is to not have that. But for a follow up shot I think the one handed lock on is worth it. So what are you thumb release guys using?
I use a Scott Sigma...its the best in my opinion

I shoot a 3 finger shootoff
I’ve used there costumer service. Completely happy with the entire process and fix (broke the sear, my fault). They replaced all the internals and returned it set up exactly as I had it, in about a week.

They offer different sizes also so you can get the exact fit and feel that suits you best.

I really like the ergonomics of the sigma but I don’t like that you have to manually flip the hook around the string loop in case of needing a follow up shot. Which I admit is rare and I’m probably making it more than an issue that it’d ever be.

Yours definitely isn't holding very well then. I could walk with mine clipped on the string and unclipped from the d loop when it was new. It has loosened up a bit but I've had it on for a long time already. I've bumped my trigger and fired my release and had it stay clipped on the string. sorry for the thread hijack:grimacing:

Carter Chocolate Addiction. If you have big hands you will love it.If you don’t leave it alone.

I noticed that. I have tiny girl hands. Lol. I’m liking the new carter convertible also. Lot of different ways to use it

Really like my true fire 4 finger, I saw a huge improvement in accuracy by switching to a thumb release, followed only by switching to .010 single pin sight.

Carter chocolate 3 finger. Clean the innerworkings after each season with weapon shield solvent and lightly lightly lubricate it. The adjustability of the thumb trigger is too dang perfect.

You really want to grow your cajones try using a back tension from the saddle. Tru ball sweet spot pro has a safety. Whoa baby
