Whos had more saddle hunting influence?

I had no-eye-deer who Scott is, lol.

It's funny. Looking back I don't know if it was John or Brad Kuhnert that first had me seriously considering hunting from a saddle. I don't think I would have adapted to it without a platform, but still, chicken or egg.

I never took the bait. DIY Sportsman (Garrett) certainly refreshed my consideration.

But it was the Forum that kind of made me bite on the idea.
I’m still waiting for Garrett’s glaring personality flaw or behind the scenes scandal to come out, like most of the other well known guys I look up to at one point or another.

My vote goes to Scott Hamilton. While John would share his knowledge, Scott was funding so much out of his own pocket for such a long time. Without this forum I don’t think the Kestrel would have been created. Without it I doubt any of these other saddle companies would have been started. DIY Sportsman, G2 Outdoors, and Bobby Boswell all had an impact but without this site it would have only been a fraction of what it is now. Scott built it and everyone else just showed up. Those early members were a tight knit group and much of what you see from all the saddle companies started from ideas bounced around this place.
Thanks @redsquirrel

I agree Boudreaux Boswell shared so much knowledge before saddle hunting was popular. I started saddle hunting because of John, but got so much better because of Bobby Boswell
And without him, saddle hunters wouldn’t have had the kestrel, kite or the original kestrel flex, I am pretty sure he helped promote the Evo as well. Aerohunter was basically just taking their recreational climbing harnesses and making them in camo. It’s my understanding that he was the main point of reference for them creating the swing seat only style saddle that virtually all one panels are made similar to now.
He also had a hand in the old trophyline saddles or at least promoting them. Definitely an OG in the saddle game. John’s probably the most successful. RedSquirrel gave everyone a platform to share ideas and to network which was the reason many of the ideas and companies have started, and John is simply put the most publicly successful saddle hunter in the game. So if I were to make a Mount Rushmore for saddle hunting, it would have to be Bobby B, Scott Hamilton, John Eberhart, and (as bad as this pains me to say) Greg G simply because you can’t deny the success of Tethrd and how many new eyes their marketing has brought to the saddle hunting industry. Whether you like their products or not is irrelevant, they have the best sales gimmick in the game and Greg is the genius behind that. I mean just look how much he did to raise the stock in sit drag amongst saddle hunters or would be saddle hunters.

That's not something I think about, but I share your sentiment of respect towards him. He's been a class act from what I've seen. (as well as probably foundational in the Predator platform's development, idk)

I don't really follow any of the Youtube hunting channels anymore. I'll browse SRTsaddlehunter's content (also Real Deal Amsteel), NY Saddle Hunter, & JRB Tree Climbing and Saddle Hunting from time to time.

But I still watch each and every DIY Sportsman video, and rewatch old ones.

The first time i ever heard of a tree saddle was from John Eberhart's books. At that time, I looked around and I seem to remember I could not find one being offered commercially. As previously mentioned, G2 Outdoors, DIYSportsman and Boudreaux Boswell were all guys I watched on Youtube to get introduced.

As far as overall uninterrupted influence on saddle hunting, I would say John Eberhart.

Who's Scott Hamilton?

Seriously though, I think lots of people have influenced saddle hunting in lots of different ways. Without question I have to first give credit to my father for using his anderson sling and hanging behind me in it all those times as a kid. That gave me an open mind to the technique from the get go. In 2007/2008 when I first read John's books he reintroduced the idea in the form of the trophyline saddle to me. That timing coincided with my move from central to North Jersey in what ended up being the single most important thing that ever affected my deer hunting. I had to learn how to hunt a new terrain and ultimately it lead to me totally re-evaluating how I hunted and my hunting knowledge to that date. Using the saddle I started going mobile before I knew "mobile hunting" existed by having over 40 trees prepped with screw in states throughout the state. I would periodically check in on archery talk where there was an occasional saddle thread. Around 2013 there was a thread on there about or coinciding with the release of the original aero hunter saddle. The discussion was mainly by the same group of guys and is where I first came in contact with Boswell. One day I decided there was enough of a group of "people like me" and I started saddlehunter. Boswell and Aero hunter were huge contributors to the saddle hunting world around that time and the market wouldn't be what it is without them. I would also give tons of influence to all of the original 500 or so members on here who contributed to that community daily. Together we really came up with some really awesome stuff that you see the results of in the saddle world today. Fast forward to the start of tethrd and you have to give Greg and Ernie a ton of influence. They exploded the saddle hunting industry. I don't even know all of the saddle hunting companies and products anymore which is a very weird feeling for me. From the day I started this site until around January 1st 2019, I had read every single thing that ever got posted on here. At that point it got to be too much and I couldn't do it anymore.

Side notes on my saddle hunting tree.
-Trophyline (obviously). They were just going out of business around the time I was getting into saddle hunting and unfortunately some of their stock was limited. It took me a ton of effort to find an ambush saddle in medium.
-Guido's web. The one saddle company that stuck around through it all and is now JX3. They have always been a niche in the industry.
-Onehair and the onehair tree seat. Definitely one of the original DIY's. I believe it was first posted on bowsite.

Yep, before the days of tethrd g2 and DIYsportsman introduced me to mobile hunting, saddles, and got me to this site. The site took it from there.

Love them or hate them ole G2 is still introducing thousands to saddlehunting, it’s just through tethrd marketing now.

Greg G=G2, I get it now, lol.

I'll tell you I never got into his videos for whatever reason. Same with David Toms, who looks to have some good content.

Boswell, CBigbear, DIY Sportsman, check, I found those.

Anyway, the Tethrd machine has attracted folks to saddlehunting no doubt, and purposefully.

But I am impressed G2 has put DIY content out as recently as 11months ago. I haven't reviewed it, but it's there.

Let not forget the Mrs. @redsquirrel and all the other spouses that supported (disgruntledly) our weird obsession with hunting diapers. Without them, we all might be doing this.

I just got the best idea for a saddle hunting calendar. Crocs and undies anyone? How to store your excess LB and tether anyone? @Red Beard beautiful custom saddle? There is one quarter already done. The ladies will pay big money.

It ain’t a good calendar if it don’t have @always89y in his fur only saddle hunt. Try not to lose anymore bets Jerry
I am supposed to try to kill a deer in a “Barney the dinosaur” onesie because of a challenge on southern game and tackle podcast. That would make for an interesting photo

Ok....this is totally errelivemt but since we talking about g2 I gotta share....

We met in person a handful of times and were friendly, at least on my end, so I'm not talking smack here Greg.....just poking fun.

I watched his recent video and then it hit me who g2 reminded me of......

Red FTW! JE, well if you can't say anything nice best to just shut up.

Really whoever the he11 Klemz is, that's really got me into saddle hunting. I had been rocking an RCH since going back to around 2005. I had thought about other ways and pondered saddles back when, but nothing about it (ROS) made sense until that reasonable platform design came about. Once I desecrated a sand cast LW stand and made a "klemz platform" it was off and running. Few grand later here I am, thanks mr. klemz.

John’s probably the most successful.

I know another John, and a doctor named bob who could prove this to be false.

I read bob sheppard’s book and immediately bought a used guidos web. A couple sweaty hunts in that led me to something “lighter”. Which led me here.

My guess is dozens if not hundreds of folks took same path.

Finding out @WHW was a member and tinkering with saddles was also a big deal to me.

If you’re talking influence = contributing to people using saddles to kill deer, as in, actually kill deer, the folks you listed, plus Dr Sheppard and Butch(guidos) and John(JX3).

If influence = saddle hunting leaving counter culture status and reaching pop culture (aka status signal) status, there’s just two - papa squirrel and g2. It’s not close.

Edit - papa squirrel also highly influential on the actual deer killin side. My above might have diminished that fact. Killers helping killers
