Whose rockin the wild edge steps this year

I guess I will have to experiment a little more to see if I get the knaider to unhook correctly. I never got off the ground with it....saw immediately I had a problem!

I have several configurations, one is 5 stepps with a 3 step CAYG aider, the other is either 10 or 12 stepps without the aider if I’m hunting closer to the car. I also preset some trees with stepps.

I really like the compactness compared to others........just like to see how most people use them and I would like a video or something to figure out the knaider. I have a set of 8 that I'd like to use on long walks off the road on public. Mostly used sticks so far but as with most systems.....finding your sweet spot on safety, weight, and compact carry will be different for different people. All advice, suggestions, and most definitely critiques are welcome! I'm old enough to know that I don't know as much as I wish did. LOL

There are vids of the knaider. It’s not complicated. I’m the same as you. Can’t unhook the first one.

Used 6 with a knaider some early season but struggled with them in the dark so went back to sticks...failure on my part but I used a kydex holster and found rope management was a pain..,tips on rope management?

I just picked up a couple of these for my ropes. I’ve daisy chained them before but I think these will be much faster. I also use a kydex holster. Sold the bag a while ago.

I have 2 16 packs and a 12. I run 14 up and 1 on each side as a platform. i carry my steps in the meat compartment in my tenzing 4000 backpack. I leave my ropes out of bag. I put the steps about about 14 to 16 inches apart. Will be my 5th year using the steps.

My new set just came in today. Got another set of 8 like I had before. They seem different now than before. Almost seems a few ounces lighter than the first set. Definitely different coating than before. Seems like slightly different tube diameter on the standoffs but maybe not. The teeth on the standoffs seems sharper which I’m good with. I feel like I can see the welds a lot easier with these than the last set but maybe that’s the coating showing that difference. Also seems like they hold in the bag easier than before when the bag is open. Got them out on the tree overnight to stretch out the straps. These are gonna be good to have back in the arsenal.

I hate to post a shameless YouTube plug but dang it if I’m not running 3 to 4 step this year with my current setup!

Wild Edge Amsteel Rope Mod and Amsteel 3 Step Aider

I use them as is. WE steps were my first ever climbing method. Its taken me a few seasons to get totally used to them but everytime I tie them up I get better and better. I usually bring a 10 pack with me. The knaider/swaider and multi step aiders may work for alot of people but its too much fiddling around for me. I like using them spaced comfortably and I basically climb up hands free just fliping my lineman belt as I go up the tree.

I've got my eye on some Tethrd sticks but it seems like they still need to work out a few kinks.

Its tough to beat the WE stepps once you get used to them. I still have everything completely stock and just sling it over my shoulder for the walk in or strap it to my bed roll straps on my pack.

Someone else mentioned keeping the knee strap tight, and that's the first thing that came to my mind. A second idea is to try giving yourself more space with your linemans rope? I haven't tested this, but it seems like if you are in pretty close, rather than leaning back a little more, that the angle of your knee might be pushed toward the tree rather than more up and down. I think that could cause the hook to catch?

I'm using 3-4 stepps with k/s, plus a fixed aider attached to a solo scout to get to hunting height. Working on no-sticking with the platform as well, but the stepps are pretty compact and just work for me.

I'm using 7 stepps with a knaider/swaider setup. 3-5 to hunting height, and then 2 additional for my ros/platform with my top stepp in the center. As others have noted, keep your knaider tight around your knee/calf and give yourself room with the lineman's rope between you and the tree, otherwise you will have issues unhooking your knaider. Finding the perfect balance/managing your lineman's rope does take a bit of practice. This is absolutely my preferred method for 90% of my hunts.

check out the thread about 7ft wild edge climb. it is an innovative and different way to use the stepps.

I've got to try once more to see if I can figure it out....might work

I picked up a set of 8 stepps last season and really liked them compared to Heliums. I'm going to try out a 2 step aider this summer to try to cut it down to just 3-4 stepps. They're so compact and fit really well on the tree once they were cammed over right. I think with some more practice and experience then it should be a fluid and easy process.

I used them some last year and had a love-hate relationship. I ran 4 with the knaider-swaider, and i love the bulk savings. But as my season progressed, I just got so tired of using them in the dark and having those oh s*** moments. I started climbing with my tether, which really helped me out, and only made it necessary to take one rope to the woods.

I had a few hunts where i was standing at the tree cussing, because i could not get the stepp set the way i wanted, but overall i really like them. I will use them some more this year for sure.

I’ll mess with it and see.

I am 61 and I do the same, I get 5 ft per stepp, have tried platforms and ros but find simplest just to use steps. Question do you leave knaider swaider on while hunting or take off and put back on? Just wondered what everyone else likes to do

I just leave them on, although I'll rotate my knaider around out of the way!
