Why don't yall 2TC?

(222) NEW 2023 2TC CLIMBING RIG - YouTube

Looks like Scott Adkins has been working on a simplified and streamlined 2TC system using Blakes hitches on his tethers. It is very close to what some of us are running. Man is he fast going up and down that tree.

I like it.
I took a look at the vid. When he said his climbing system was 5lbs I turned it off.

Too heavy or too light?
The title of this thread is why don't you 2TC.
No advantage for me. At 5 to 6 lbs their are easier ways for me to climb. I can 2TC up a TP (telephone pole) tree. I try to avoid those trees. Since I only climb 12 to 18 feet 4 mini sticks with a one step aider can be 6lbs or less.

Makes sense. I have an abundance of telephone poles (probably 97%) and routinely go at least 20 feet and sometime up to 30 depending on the situation. I need packability, light weight (miles from the truck) and the option to go as high as I need too.

Please be safe ...sticks are dangerous and cause the most saddle injuries..
.i so virtue signalled.

I used a set of 4 Lone Wolf stick with an aider on the bottom my first season in the saddle and I never felt safe of them with a lineman's belt. Not knocking sticks for folks who like them, but I just never could.

I have been using the origional LW sticks for over 20 years. Never had a issue. But I do agree that 2TC is much safer. And with the trees you have and the height you climb 2TC is the way to go.

The Lone Wolf sticks are probably plenty safe if used correctly. I just never felt I had a good grasp on 1. Carrying them to and from the tree. I used the aider as a shoulder strap. 2. Carrying them up the tree, hated anything hanging on my saddle, and 3. The unwieldiness, by this I mean the weight but mainly the bulkiness and the way they would shift and get caught on vines and brush. It was just a combination of things.

Hmm I need to watch that about 5 more times but it got me thinking…. Could I take a straight piece of tether line with a loop (spliced, sewn, or tied) to girth hitch around the trunk, pass the end through the bridge, then tie a Blake’s hitch back on itself. I’d have some adjustability but could be metal free to stay quieter and lighter.

There's other systems with more adjustability ( branch passing, etc) that are metal free using JRB's longhorn soft shackle or other such methods but Scott's is very simple and almost fool proof if you're gonna climb straight trees.

Is it just me, or is he not attached to his 2TC rig other than his feet?
I sort of thought that too, that he wasn't wearing a saddle but just climbing on the ropes and that the thigh loop was the only thing connecting him to it. Surely not. I'm sure he has a saddle on or rock harness.

Maybe...I'd try it at the ground a lot first.
