Why don't yall 2TC?

the knot can be tied near one end of the rope and will feed through using my preset paracord line as a rope extender....the same for the Maverick!
Or you can use John's 'houdini' rigging.
It is simpler to have a rope long enough to reach both ends to the floor like a DSRT(aka JRB) but a paracord preset or a pull down string is sufficient as well.
The other thing is that, except for a spliced eye, any knot to make an end loop will be as much as a Maverick knot, except it packs easier because you don't store its knotted form.

Oh, cool. I will try that

Tried tying the maverick hitch today. Easy enough to tie but so much going on it’s hard for me to have confidence in it just yet. I didn’t completely weight it but even just tugging on the rope it seems slightly difficult to explode the hitch. I’ll have to play around with it more later.

I had 50 ft of rope and tied in the maverick hitch at about the half way point in the line. It seems it would still give me the ability to rappel and use the other end to pull down/explode.

Also trying this out as a method to “2TC” with just the rope with the option to rappel at any point.

I pretty much used the maverick hitch all season and never even considered going back to a delta link. It works great and ties quicker than opening/closing the delta link.
How do you lock yours out and how do you explode yours?

I just use it on the end of rappel rope, not in middle but for exploding, before I climb down I just pull a loop of the tag end through the last loop of the hitch and pull down rope is attached to end of that tag. Have had no problems exploding hitch yet. If you have too much tag end, there is a way to just use an extra carabiner to lock the hitch on that same last loop.

Since I use same rope as tether while hunting, I usually pull tag end fully through last loop, so hitch cant accidentally explode.

See that toe smash??? This chunk of "silly flat-footed thing" I'm using eliminates every bit of that AND practically eliminates the kick-out I have both experienced and watched on the videos ( here in this thread iirc ). I know how much energy it takes to climb without this 'silly flat-footed thing'.

AND - This chunk of "silly flat-footed thing" weighs next to NOTHING. Maybe the same as the fuel line on most aiders.

The following is for EVERYONE watching the antics in this thread:

The name of the 'saving-weight-while-keeping-it-simple' game is to conserve energy and reduce sweat.
The more we succeed in accomplishing this while being comfortable during our hunt, the deeper into the bush we can go.
An added benefit for me is when I return home, I will have even more energy to chase my wife around the bedroom more than three times that night.

Feel free to add to the benefits of not expelling energy unnecessarily while getting the job done.

Having a little fun and keeping it light-hearted. :-D

Are you guys over-complicating your tether, or am I not seeing a risk or a problem when using this type of tether for both upper and lower tethers during 2TC?

Lots of us use identical tethers for top and bottom I don’t think most of us are trying to over complicate anything.

I would recommend using a figure 8 on a bite vs the overhand on a bite you opted for in this picture of your tether. Also that is a fairly unsafe way to terminate your friction hitch. I would recommend double fishmans, hunters bend or double pouchers knots to terminate your friction hitch. Your tag ends are incredible short as well and if you have a fall or use repeatably they can pretty easily pull through.

Thank you.

What advantage does the figure 8 have over the overhand?
