Why don't yall 2TC?

Only way to know for sure is to make some....I just envision the way a PVC pipe will bend up till the point the walls fail then it just kinks and bends in half...with a majority of the pipe cut away now.iys even weaker/more prone to sidewall failed/kinkys... I hate Lowes but they have a good selection of tubing..I look next time Im there...advancing the tether is what kills 2tc for me but a spreader like that would make me reconsider
I have a bad shoulder and can’t lift my right arm without excessive effort and pain. Moving any tether up has been my biggest physical challenge. I put handles on my tether/rappel rope and that helps…..at least some. But I like the idea of a hose or something so it’s a lot stiffer like a lasso rope. Y’all figure this out so I can go try it!

Maybe when I get the SRT thing figured out, I’ll play with the 2TC

I'm totally new to 2tc, I have the gear but I'm just waiting for better weather to start practicing.
I have noticed some guys mention foot discomfort on the foot tether.
Would a foot pedal from Treehopper solve that? Instead of having the pedal on a bolt, it could just be threaded onto the foot tether. Just thought I'd mention it...no idea at this point if it's a viable solution.

time to drill a whole through a 2x4 and find out I suppose...does anyone know what the diameter of the through hole on the treehopper pedal is? I assume 3/8" of an inch with a touch of wiggle room...I wonder if I can find an old bike to steal the pedals off of....

It's pretty much 3/8".

I took a 3/4 by 1 1/2 by 4 1/2 block of wood a while back drilled a 7/16 hole through it and made a pedal to try out for bolts. Works well for distributing weight. Only issue I can see is it will likely spin some on rope unless you tie it off some way.

What do you 2TC climbers use to guard against kick out on your foot loop. I had one today and was caught by my tether but swung horizontally. Any tips?
I'm new to this a few weeks but no kickouts so far. I make sure the foot loop is in the arch of my foot. Then put pressure down on the loop while digging my toe into the tree. That way I take the slack out of the foot tether while digging in my toe. I then start the step up by pushing as straight down on the rope as possible while pulling up in the top tether. As soon as I can I throw my right leg around the other side of the tree to get support. Try it as close to ground level as possible until you get the mechanics of it.

Practice mostly, ....and a new design of a rubber boot toe stub that will give a wider surface to press against the tree......
But mostly practice!

A wide foot loop such as sold by @always89y will solve ALL such problems and be waaaaay lighter and less bulky.
If you read through the couple 2TC thread....many of these questions have been discussed and answered.

I've been reading every post in this thread (lol, one guy's spelling and typing skills makes his posts a bit hard to read. he knows who he is:)),but regardless, I've followed this thread pretty closely.
Which is how I came to wonder if those bolt pedals might be useful to some guys...obviously not everyone, but some guys experiencing foot discomfort might find them useful. Could be just a starting point for some newbies like me. I'm a pretty agile climber for an old guy so they might not be something I'd need once I get dialed in. Just thought I'd mention them. Suggestions get the creative juices flowing.

I bet you could take a short piece of steel maybe 1 inch wide by 1/4 inch thick and 5 inches long and round the ends and file off all sharp edges and put that inside the bottom of a footloop made out of 1 inch tubular webbing. I doubt a short piece of steel would bend.

Simple 1” webbing will cure any foot discomfort. I think people using just straight rope were the ones hurting.

I think it comes down to balance and practice. Some people are going to be able to balance better than others. At what point in your climb was your kick out? When you first weighted it? While you were standing? While you were moving your tether up? Other? Wrapping the heel of your opposite foot into the side of the tree helps. I imagine a lineman’s belt would aid as well. Most of my kick outs are minor and I typical feel them before they happen so I can throw a hand up to counterbalance and reset. I think you get a better feel the more you do it.

I've been doing quite a bit of 2TC lately and I'm liking just a rope.

Thanks for that picture @NMSbowhunter !

Thanks! I appreciate it. One thing about the bottom tether I use is it is 11.4mm Samson Predator. I think that is 15 feet total in that tether. I made it originally to use on monster trees when climbing DRT. Predator is a soft rope and that helps for foot comfort. The Blakes hitch is working really well for me. The top tether is 11.4mm Bluewater static, a stiffer rope and helps when I am moving the top tether up.

I think the rope I grabbed from the garage is Predator as well?
I dropped my phone out of a tree a couple hours ago and can't add a picture...

It's basically the same as yours but A LOT OLDER and pretty abused! :grimacing:

It's perfect!

I hope your phone is OK. I've been leaving mine on the ground to video my climbs.

The screen is wasted and the mall that has the phone fixer-upper guy closed at 7...
