Wild Edge Step...GAME CHANGER :)

Is this mod still working out for you? I have put the steps on a few trees that would probably be considered tree damage on state lands. You guys that filled with foam what type and weight did you use? I thought about filling with foam then the job weld on the ends just incase the jb weld didn’t hold or weaker over time it couldn’t go anywhere. Plus maybe it would give it more of a compression.

I did the JB weld, no foam, but yeah. I just climbed a tree in my backyard that wouldve been pretty chewed up from the steps, but just put a couple dimples in it, only the depth from the point to the JB weld. Again tried to take a picture of it, but picture didnt really do it any justice. Kurt Came up with a good one. Ive probably done 10 total climbs with them since the JB weld and I dont think its going anywhere. Foam wouldnt hurt though I guess, maybe dampen some sounds (jurys out on that one), but add minimal weight and potentially stop your JB weld plug from moving. But I would think if what youre doing to it jars JB weld loose, a little foam wont stop it.

Thanks for the reply guys. I guess I was just thinking that if for some reason the jb weld didn’t come loose with enough foam in it that it may at least stop from going back into the step so far I couldn’t remove it. I guess if anything like DaWiz stated it might dampen the sound a bit.

This is a picture of a very thin barked swamp maple as you can see it knocks off the outside bark but does not appreciably penetrate the inner layers. Again I noticed no instability in the step the second picture is another white pine that shows the compression marks but no coring of the bark.

How are you getting the wei stepps tight on pine? I have tightened them , after rubbing some of the bark off to try to get better contact and cam over, but the stepps keep wanting to pop back up. Any advice, or just stick to hard woods?

If the steps are popping back up on me, it's usually because I'm not lifting them high enough to generate that solid cam over. Pines are tough, though. It seems like there's less margin for error on pines between how tight you get the rope around the tree and then that pull up and cam over stage. It's gotta be closer to perfect to get a solid one.
