Wild Edge steps moving

Is there a way, or a mod, to keep the WE steps from moving when you step up on them? I cam them over good and they feel tight and sturdy, but when I step up on them they like to move/twist a little. It's like they knock the bark off and then become a little loose. I thought I saw someone put little aluminum rods inside the standoffs to give more surface area for pressure on the tree. IDK if that worked or not.

Anyone else have this same issue?

I dont own them but have seen a lot of guys complaining about how they work on soft trees (pine). Havent seen a solution for it though. I was thinking about buying til I read those

Seems to depend on the tree, I got mine this summer and some trees I cant seem to make work, others they are rock solid. Wish I had a solution.

What type of trees are you climbing? I love mine and haven’t had any issues with them. If your new to using the steps, I can only recommend practicing with them. Once you get them cammed over there shouldn’t be any twisting or loosening. Hope you get it worked out because they’re a great tool to have for saddle hunting. Stay safe and have fun. Good luck this season!

Ive been practicing, and I'm climbing oaks mainly. Red oaks and white oaks. There aren't a lot of pines in this area. Like I said, they're solid and then I put weight on them and the bark chips off and becomes loose.

Have you stretched the ropes? I had this issue and ended up putting them on a large tree to stretch the whole rope. Went out every 6 hours or so and took up slack and re-cammed. Did this for 3 days. Well worth the time.

I’ve found if I lean my body away from the tree more and push my foot in an angle, opposed to standing up straight on the step, they are less likely to slip. Tough to explain but with more experimentation you’ll find the happy place.

I have stretched them, but not to this extent. I might give that a try. They are still new. Thanks.

The only time I had a problem with them shifting under load was a camming error on my behalf. Once I got the cam method down I havent had them move at all regardless of where i step on them. Stretching the ropes over night may help a bit as these other guys have mentioned.

I had the same issue until I left them on a large tree for 2 nights, now I don’t have any issues. Also put them in as large of a tree as you can to stretch the whole rope out. Mine was way larger than I would ever hunt.

I was pretty pissed about my steps and perch purchase at first. But I didn’t realize the ropes needed stretched and the perch step should be cammed with the perch in place. Now I love the whole set up. Takes some practice too, I think some give up too early.

Some do give up too early! The stepps work great when you've properly stretched the ropes, when I have mine set, I can jump on them and they don't move at all.
