It’s correct, the two sections of cord alternate in the front as they go down. This keeps the lengths equalized if using a cord with eyes, and let’s say if the left side cord is always in the front, the lengths wouldn’t match, and the weave spirals around the rope instead of being flat.

You threw me off by not including the top three wraps as well as having so many cobra weaves below. I have since tried your method of just three or four wraps up top followed by two or three cobra weaves and I liked it a lot. I’m going to continue to test it.
 
Seems like a mid line attachable ascender would be easier to put on and off the rope.
