XOP RETROGRADE

Have you looked at the cold world? It's a bit bigger and a pound heavier than the retrograde.

BT

The cold world looks like a real nice stand but it’s more in comparison to the LWCG .75 in my opinion.
Ordered a new Retrograde last week from XOP on their “new year” discount and it showed up today. Made a couple moves with my 12” one stick and hung the stand. It was a nice surprise compared to hunting from the flat scout or flat UP the past 3 seasons.

No I’m 5”5 and the .5/retrograde is about the size I like. Minus how narrow the retrograde is. It’s not a bad stand from a saddle hunter standpoint I could see it being viable option as a hybrid. As a dedicated stand hunter it has limitations but I don’t know if it’s enough to discredit it

So it looks like the seat is 1” wider on the XOP. The platform is 2 1/2” wider on the .5, same length. Seat post is same in both. Both weigh in at 6 pounds. XOP is $100 cheaper than the .5

Anything else worth considering?

xop has a much more substantial cushion The coating on xop is aggressive but can be sanded down.

USA vs Chy-Na

And there is a strong case to buy the USA product here, it’s flat out better.

Besides, with some planning a standard LWCG .5 could be had for the same price as the Retrograde.

Don’t know what the XOP New Year’s discount was, but it’s a no brainer when you can support USA made and enjoy a better product when in this dollar range, imo.

300$ to my door on the new year discount for the retrograde. Hard to not want to save 200+$ vs LWCG

I would gladly pay a few hundred more for USA made over Chy-Na made. Plus the Retrograde feels like 200 grit sandpaper.

That’s the great thing about having the freedom to spend money how you please. We could all argue for days on who buys what and where it was manufactured, but this thread shouldn’t be derailed on that basis. Good thread going regarding the retrograde, let’s keep it to the details of the stands.

Waiting on the TX5 T.S.S.S and Backwoods Mobile Gear hitch hiker to finish the setup.
That 200$ paid for the TX5 suspension system. That will likely replace having to carry my EXO K3. The stand carries good even with the XOP backpack straps they sent.

Is the retrograde small/light enough to lash or strap to a pack, or perhaps sit in the back pocket of a turkey vest? Or is it too big and cumbersome to haul in that way and requires its own backpack straps?

I'm assuming if you use a Chassis or carrying system you could strap your pack to the stand and set it on the "meat" shelf seat.

It could be strapped to the EXO frame pack on the load shelf or to the front of the 1800 bag I have with the compression straps. Doesn’t have to have its own suspension system. I’ll strap it down and get some pictures this evening on my EXO K3

Indeed, the XOP is cheaper in every way.

$500 LWCG gift card cost $400 at Christmas. I think it’s worth an extra $100 for the better stand that’s made in the USA.

@VaBruiser asked if there is anything else worth considering between the Retrograde and LWCG.5.

I don’t think it’s a derailment to point out these things that were not in his comparison:
1. Retrograde is made in China
2. Retrograde has a very abrasive finish
3. .5 has a history of availability at the $400 price point

It’s his money to spend how he wishes, true, but these may be significant factors to him.

Some videos on the stand(s) for those that missed them, you get a decent look.

Lots of frame packs offer this functionality. Kifaru, Seek Outside, Kuiu, MR, Exo…from personal experience.

Of them the Seek Revo frame is the lightest and most minimal.

One thing I’d be a little worried about is wear and tear from the abrasive finish rubbing on the fabric of a frame. Might not be an issue, or might. Idk.

But those are details of the stand and some may consider them more important than others. Another detail some may consider is how each stand holds its value if you choose to sell and move on. The .5 wins that battle again.
