In northern Ohio the barometer starts dropping on Thursday, the temp plunges and wind / snow hit Friday morning, weather relenting on Sunday.

When will the deer move and feed?

I’m gonna guess they sense the falling barometer on Thursday with primary moving / feeding Thursday and Sunday evening, a lesser feeding on Saturday, and hunkered down not much feeding on Friday.

Anybody else want to place bets?

I like what you predicted but to play along, I’m gonna add that they’ll move again after all the nonsense to catch up on Monday but they’ll also move to some thermal cover and thick cover on the leeward side of slopes looking for short sage sreas to move to browse to keep their rumens filled.

I’d add after a storm it seems to take a day or 2 to get them up and moving. I think they are concerning energy during the worst of a storm before moving again.

Lets be real, deer are going to move when the legal or the illegals put out more corn.

This is the big debate w my buddy, he thinks they’ll be out peak wind and cold on Friday, I’ve got em hunkering for a day or two. It’s fun feels like I’ve got some money bet on a game.

They’ll find cover from the wind. Then they’ll move once there is no more browse in the cover and the winds are not as crazy. after three days of it they have no choice and come out. My bets.

9 below tomorrow here in KY tomorrow.
Only seen 2 does this morning out feeding.
Any one else see any major deer movement?

The predictions window from my original post officially opens today, will follow up along the way or Sunday / Monday with what I’ve seen. Thus far I’m just seeing steady regular intermittent feedings evenings and middle of the night.

Sat for a late morning/early afternoon sit today with nothing going. Dropped a trail cam where I was hunting, so we'll see what happens the rest of the day.

Up lake from you:

I had 6 bucks in my yard yesterday starting at 1:35PM. They fed around until 1:55PM. I saw 4 of them again less than a quarter mile away around 3:40PM, as well as several does, closer to known bedding. At 5:00PM, I went out and saw none.

Very rare to see bucks here, 6 at once is an absolute anomaly so we kind of figure we're up against it with this storm.

Have not been out today, lol. Let us know what you discover :tearsofjoy:

I from East Central Ky, I went out yesterday afternoon and didn’t see a thing. After dark my cameras lit up and they moved all night long. 30 mph wind and 0 degrees and they fed all night. So much for the wind keeping them bedded down lol. I’m still trying to get up enough nerve to try to go out for while this afternoon, just not sure!

That last one knew what time it was for sure;).
In all seriousness, I’m banking on heavy movement xmas day. I’m also banking on heavy kill-rate with these winds being what they are. And you can see that buck has lost some tine material. He was fully-racked just a few days ago. I’m hoping to be back in a tree Monday but I might be on the ground if my presets have been blown down…

Northeast OH… I have multiple cams on a transition area to brassica food plots, and one spin corn feeder; I don’t plan to hunt the feeder just had it in the barn so put it out a few weeks ago with a camera on it to see who lives through December… thus far todays feeding out in the peak of the cold and wind has been with more activity than yesterday. Would give yesterday a C on the report card, and today a B+ with at least half a dozen deer visible 45 mins before dark. No big shooter bucks but one decent 8 point. So far, against my intuition, from what I can see on cams they didn’t ramp up feeding before the storm but were out right in the thick of it this PM. Interesting.

I'm in N.W. Ohio, Allen County and there's not a critter worth going after in this type of weather conditions. o_O I'd rather fight skeeters than frost bite and therefore the reason why I hunt hard in the early season. I shot a doe on Oct. 3rd, a buck on Oct. 6th and purchased another either sex tag. However, this last tag may go unfilled, but I won't mind. :)

Starting next Wednesday, the temps are going back up above freezing and into the 50s thru the new year. I won't hunt on any east or north wind days. Here in Ohio the prevailing winds are out of the south and west. The deer live by their noses and shift patterns on any other wind directions.
