It is. @HuumanCreed is correct it is better than tenderloin, also more nutritious.

I save and eat the liver probably 50% of the time, depends on what mood I’m in when quartering it. I don’t remember ever having chicken livers so can’t compare but deer liver is much more mild than beef liver.

Heart is fantastic. Up there with beef liver. Fried or pickled heart sure is a treat to this guy. And nothing better hthan pickled heart, cheese n crackers on poker nights.

Any of ya'll eat deer liver? Does it have a similar taste?
Deer liver and onions is good just follow a normal beef liver and onions recipe. We'll usually soak the liver in buttermilk overnight regardless of the recipe.
I make what they call pâté too. I didn't know what it was called I guess until I looked up a recipe similar to the one we use at home. Meat Eater is a really good online resource for wild game recipes I think have actually been tried. Here's a couple similar to what I've done/tried.

Why yall bother fryin up all that good catfish bait is beyond me, never mind actually eating the catfish bait. The liver is part of the guts and guts aint food for me.

Used to hate these things when I was younger. My parents were the "eat it you get nothing else" type, but this was the only thing I got a pass on. They would make me physically gag from the taste. I've tried them a few times here and there to see if I liked them again, and it was always a hard NO. They claim your taste buds change every 7 years. Maybe a wives tail. I dunno.

Fast forward to my late 30s, my mother in law made some, and I "tried" them again, and couldn't get enough of them. Now I'm cooking them on my own. They're delicious!

They’re not bad but I’ll take gizzards any day. Season salt and Cook them in pressure cooker then bread and fry, now there’s some good eats
