Also the kit's power plug between battery harness and motor seem like china junk. They do not stay hooked together well, so if you want a quick disconnect you will have to replace it with something better. You could always just tape it together if you weren't worried about quick disconnect. I plan to just remove the battery when not in use (seems safer that way) so I just removed the plugs and wired the two together
Looks very nice! Keep the updates coming!

A buddy of mine has the Rambo 750 and 2 of his brothers and his dad has a quiet kat....he offered me to buy his make an offer only has 18 miles on it,checked with dnr here in md and it' s a go...so I offered him a price and now I'm working on saving up for it....cant wait to use it to get in without sweating instead of walking 2 miles or more one way....and to retrieve my deer !

I'm not a bike guy, but my reasoning tells me that the best platform depends on the terrain. The exact reasons that guys choose full suspension vs cross country vs fat bikes while pedaling relates to ebikes.
If you want to be optimal and you are riding on dry, clean hard packed trails, why wouldn't a cross country mountain bike be superior? Same goes for snow, mud or sand with a fat bike. If you are dealing with tons of rocks and logs, maybe the FS is the way to go

Just makes sense to me that the best application for pedaling is the best application for an ebike... but in the end, the optimal platform for your terrain isn't going to be the only one to work. I'm sure a fatbike will work just fine with a motor on dry trails....A Full suspension bike without having to pedal uphill I'm betting is pure heaven.

Whatever you decide on just pay close attention to the frames bottom bracket size before you buy a "donor bike". Some of the newer bikes may have these "pressfit" bottom bracket doo hickeys, that either require pricey machined spacers or flat out wont accept the bafang middrives.

Phenomenal description...

$814 for the 750watt bbs02 kit with luna cycle 48volt shark battery, shipped (it was on some kind of package deal...think it was about 50dollar saving at the time)
$63 for the 30tooth chain ring, shipped

The 1k watt, 52 volt setup ErnieP is doing is probably twice as much though...still his setup will be considerably less than than the $6000 Rambo bike his DIY will be comparable to

*As far as my bike expense....didn't know what I was doing. My planned "donor bike" didn't have a compatable bottom bracket (SRAM press-fit)

$99 for a Nashbar 29r frame (with regular 68mm bottom bracket), shipped

Lithium ion batteries are really half the expense of these things. Will their prices start to dramatically drop in the near future as tech advances?

You could always save cash for weight and do some 12volts in a rear rack bag. Its what these e-bike guys used to do pre lithium-ion. You are going to take on a lot of weight and bulk however

Yeah you got off better than I did, my motor kit was $919 shipped without a battery. (They are currently out of batteries, but I'm planning on $500 for the battery.)

My donor bike was $1000.

Like @sb220 said, it will be as good or better than some 5-6k bikes out there.

And of course good enough.... isn't....

I am already looking at internal geared hubs to eliminate the hassle of chain alignment. Then I can run a smaller front ring for more torque.

The problem I'm running into is that the geared hubs all have 36 spokes, and my rims are 32. I'm not ready to buy new rims on top of the cost of the hub yet.

I'll probably ride it as is with a normal cassette and maybe upgrade next year.

I actually ordered one of those shift sensors after ordering my kit and watching more junk on youtube. Luna wouldn't alter my order after the fact so I could save on shipping, so I said nevermind and ordered one on amazon.
Shift sensor does what it says for 35 bucks. kills the motor as you shift....least it does it with the bike upside down in my living room

o yeah G2

$35 shift sensor, shipped

Motor, controls, sensors, all installed. Wires roughed in with electrical tape.

It appears the batteries are back in stock so I can order that.

It's not a super simple install but not impossible either. I had to make three trips to the hardware/bike store so far.

A friend of mine just bought his second electric bike he has a 1000 watt Quietkat and he just got a 750 watt Radrover. He said that the Radrover is actually quieter then the Quietkat. He bought the Radrover for $1,200 and he got free shipping.

Where did he get a 1200 Rad Rover? Used?

The Rad Rover is a rear hub motor right? Not sure that would be the right choice for my hilly hunting purposes. I think having the gearing of a mid drive motor would serve me better.
