    Bowline for Rappel/Tether Girth Hitch?

From what I've read and my experience learning the knot, the bowline is dangerous because it's easy to tie incorrectly, but it looks like you've tied it right. I still like the knot but not for hunting, as the time saved double checking isn't worth the time to double check it. I like the fig8...

Wash poison ivy oils out of rope?

I've made this same mistake and I react pretty strongly to poison ivy. I used Dawn dish detergent, scrubbed it with a soft bristles scrubbing brush in hot water with gloves and long sleeves on. I got it all over EVERY piece of saddle hunting gear including 65ft of rope. From what I remember, my...

    All day sits

All good advice, but blood clots in the lower extremities don't cause strokes. They can lead to pulmonary embolism though, which can also be quite dangerous/deadly.

    Carabiner Recommendation???

No idea, but I agree for the same reasons. I prefer Petzl triact lock biners. If it supports my weight, I use something with an auto lock (but still double check) and buy from the main climbing companies, such as camp, petzl, DMM, black diamond, etc. Lots of somewhat cheaper stuff on Amazon or...

    ? for the SRT guys.

Are you doing RADS? That's how I climb. Agree on shortening the bridge, it makes climbing much more efficient. I don't stay vertical really, I'm at an angle. Right foot on tree for stability keeps things quiet. Left foot in loop connected to hand ascender for upward progress.

    Best Pack for Saddle Hunting

Oh, and another question for the pop up users: when you have the shelf loaded, does it compress everything in the main pack so it's difficult to get out?

    Best Pack for Saddle Hunting

I've been seriously looking at this pack. I saw you use a different pack for the winter. The pop up appeals to me because as it gets colder I can throw heavier layers between the bag and frame. Did you just like the exo more for winter, or does the pop up not work well for that scenario?

    Ridding Ropes/Saddle of Poison Ivy

Sorry just saw this. In researching how to wash ropes, the consistent theme was gentle and non detergent, and don't wash unless absolutely necessary. I think detergents are considered too harsh. Wish I had a better source of info to cite, but the best I've got it "I read it on the internet."...

    Ridding Ropes/Saddle of Poison Ivy

Worst poison ivy I got was when I climbed a tree in a park to practice my set up. Maintenance had just finished the area. I'm assuming the small plant they weed whipped at the base of the tree was poison ivy. All over my rope, gear, pack, etc. Check the dish detergent section. You want a non...

Wrangler outdoor comfort flex cargo pants, $22 get you some!

I usually wear 31 or 32, 6'4" 165#. I bought the fleece lined and regular ones, both were at Target. I went with 32x34, length was just long enough, waist was slightly loose and they need a belt, but a 30w would be way too narrow. Size up and use a belt because they are cut slim through the...

Delta link for SRT rope retrieval

I use a delta screw link. Buy one from treestuff so you know its life safett rated. I use it with either a backed up figure eight or a spliced loop, depending on my rope. I think it definitely makes retrieval easier.

    Climbing rope for tree access

To climb SRT you need two progress capture devices (ascender, rope man, grigri when rigged right). If you use two ascenders you still need a descender. Might as well use RADS which is pretty efficient for 20-30ft.

    SRT Throw Rope Weight Idea

You might be right...except I made this so I could retrieve the other one that was stuck 35' up in a tree, lol.

    SRT Throw Rope Weight Idea

Take a plastic sandwich bag and fill it with about 12-16 oz of shot lead or pellets. Form into a roughly tube shape. Take about a foot of webbing, put a ring on it, form into a loop. Wrap it around the whole thing and wrap in a ton of duct tape so the loop sticks out. I've shot a bag like this...
