2016 Group Hunt Planning

I guess it could be worse. My two addictions could be heroin and meth...with a healthy does of gambling, prostitutes and hunting from a tree stand thrown in.

Wow, you make my past life sound awful.
Anyway, I'm not that kind of guy any more... I now hunt from a saddle, not a tree stand. ;)

So this was the first thing I read when I opened the thread. Lets just say I was quite interested to see what rabbit hole we went down this time...

You never do!

I just found out the Army will be moving us to Savannah, GA this September. Unfortunately I won't be able to make Saddlepalooza 2016. I'm bummed!

That's not cool, but look at it this way: at least you'll finally be in the promised land, errrr I mean the south. Lol
Savannah is not all that far fRom here.

We're pretty excited to be heading back down South. Well, my wife is. I kind of like it up North. Oh well - in a few years the Army will move us somewhere new!

Look at it this way:
It'll be no snow, it'll be shorts and t shirt weather for nine or ten months outta the year, and the humidity rarely gets over 100 percent. Lol

Look me up when you get settled in Savannah!! You'll be little over 3 hours from me. My hunting buddies and I would be glad to have ya. Can't imagine having to relocate and have no idea where I was gonna spend the Fall of the year!!!!

I knew we kept this guy around here for a reason

What a guy!

Turns out, I have quite a bit of Wildlife Management Area right near me. I'll be getting my feet wet, literally and figuratively, right behind the new house.

If you guys don't have a favorite mapping app/service, let me suggest All Trails Pro. I've been a paying member for many years and I love it. Their smart phone app is great and works in offline mode. Plus they have all the imagery you could want. It's more user friendly than creating stuff in google earth and it has almost all the same capabilities that most hunters are looking for.

This year isn't going as planned for me so far.
Couple people got fired at work, so my work load has increased. Working most weekends, and late days. I have barely had time to shoot , or do anything in the woods. Then when I do get a day off, there's always family that needs me.
Other than a handful of days spent in the woods around home, and taking nieces and nephew fishing, water park, etc, I haven't been able to do much of anything.
(Still)Haven't been able to do my first 3d thing even though I've watched several pass me by.
Arizona trip isn't gonna happen.
Still trying to get time to go do a hog hunt here in SC.
Saddle palooza may still be possible since there's still time (I'm cautiously optimistic).

Yep, so far this year hasn't been nearly as fun as I'd hoped.
Still time, though

I hear you!

This was going to be my 3rd season in NY and I felt like I was finally getting the hang of this area. Now I have to move and start all over again in a COMPLETELY different ecosystem. Thanks OBAMA!

The group hunt will be at Wayne National Forest in southeastern Ohio the last week of October this year. For starters, who is coming? Let's start planning this thing!

Any important information regarding this trip will be posted right here in this first post:
Update 01/22/16

Attendees:
redsquirrel
Erniepower
g2outdoors (possible)
flinginairos (possible)
Maustypsu
Prill87
gene2000

Well, I am new to the site and this will be my first year saddlehunting and just ran across this Saddlepalooza thing. All I have to say is awesome and I'm there...though I doubt I'll be able to finagle a whole week. Also, I live in Cincinnati and Wayne is any easy jaunt for me - actually know it fairly well AND can get out and do an informational scouting trip or two sometime in August for the benefit of the group...take some GPS coordinates, ID some game trails, scrapes, etc. Let me know if this is of interest and we can narrow down some target areas?

I am officially out of the saddle palooza. I'm not going to have enough time to make enough of a trip out of it. Sorry guys!

I'm not looking very good for this trip right now guys. We have someone retiring and we are yet to hire a replacement so I'm doing 2 jobs right now. Maybe this will change, but its not looking good :(
