How deep is the hook on a knaider? My main concern would be when you are leaning over to hook the 5 step aider hanging only by the knaider seems like the most probable time for your foot to kickout. Never used a knaider so I have no idea how much wiggle room you have before your sliding down hoping the linemans will catch.

I wouldn't lean "over" to attach or detach these systems. You need to lean "back" into your lineman's belt. This is the key to all of these methods, and feeling safe, and being stable. If you're leaning over or to the side or hunched over to hook and unhook, your lineman's is either loose, or at an improper angle to your body and won't be much help. Like Fat Joe says - Lean back...

Where did u get the Knaider made? Any links I can be referred to? Is it safe to put the carbiner from the platform to the aider. Will the platform hold the weight with all the pressure in one spot?

G2, I am looking into this method. The problem I have had with a couple of the etriers I have put my hands on are that the loops aren't big enough. When I follow your link there are 2 options for the aider, one yellow and one black, and they look to be different based on the pictures. In your video yours is blue... I want to order the correct one and actually be able to use it due to the steps being big enough to get my boot into.

Can you point me in the right direction please? Thanks!

This works well. Here is a photo I took the day Greg and I first discussed this. I later went and hit 18 foot with 3 stepps and an aider.

Which aider is that?

Same here, the pics show different aider based on color and blue isn't one of them. I also have tried a 5step aider made by a company I can't recall at the moment and the steps dont stay open when trying to climb. I don't want to buy another one that is junk. Lol

I recommend the Black Diamond or CMI 5 step aider. I've used both and they're great. The one I linked to in the video is a little lighter since they use a smaller webbing. I'm going to try that one as well.

With the knaider, it's surprisingly secure. I thought it would be sketchy when I first saw Pete demonstrate it. I have had zero kickouts with this system. However, I'm pretty much at pro level in climbing with aiders. I've been doing it for 2 or 3 years now. When used correctly with a lineman belt, I don't find aiders any less safe than climbing sticks.

A little PSA: I have had one kick out with the knaider, but this was on about the thinnest smoothest tree you could get a WE Stepp on and it was wet! I love the knaider but I think I found the limit. I've never had an issue with a more typical tree and continue to use the knaider happily.

I also used G2's link and just received the 5 step aider. What I like about it is it's small, 3/4 wide, what I don't like about it is it's small! LOL I ran out back and tried it and like it but it's small. I used it on my LW sticks, one stick and this aider got me to about 8' or around there. One of these days I'm going to bring a tape measure with me.The other good thing about it is it only cost me $3. I had reward points.

Is there a saddlehunter thread about making the knaiders? or a member selling them? I'd like to try this method
