Not in the southern portion. Grew up calling them specks. Loads of them off the satilla.

Not sure what part you are from. I grew up around Valdosta about 60 miles north of i10 and was grown before I knew what a crappie or bowfin was even though I had been catching specks and mudfish all my life.

I've heard them called crappie, but I've never heard them called specks. We call speckled trout, specks. That's a new one for me. And that's just for the blacks, we call the white sac-a-lait white perch. So @bingo was that your wife filming you when you were fishing? Might need to get her to video your climbing method. You don't want to end up like @redsquirrel and his aider video that he's never made. The guy's just won't give him a break on that one!

I mentioned on here that I thought it 3 pounds or less. But I don’t have a scale and Donnieballgame I think weighted his and it was closer to 5. But for me it just makes sense that I only carry the platform. I wear my saddle and tether around my waist. I have a $20 backpack from Walmart that has straps half way down on each side with plastic buckles that I run through each side of the platform and cinch tight. I put whatever in my backpack and that and my bow is it. That’s climbing method and platform all in one. When I get to height I put my hangers on or in the tree and I’m ready to hunt. It doesn’t take very long to climb but if you take your time you can not make as much noise. It’s apparently not for everyone but it really works well for me so I’m going to post it a lot. But that’s why they have different colors because not everyone likes blue.

I’m already thinking I’m going to bolt Lone Wolf arms on Predator and try it for climbing to see if it works better than Lone Wolf or XOP. But dot tell Ernie or G2.

Can you just buy the lone wolf arms and strap? I could use a set for a project!

And in south Louisiana we call a bowfin a Chouxpique and in North Louisiana they call it a grennel.

I haven’t called them up but they don’t show them for sale on their sites. They might if you call them.

Probably more than just buying new...

I hope I feel as comfortable in this mantis as I do in a rc harness. I’m thinking the first thing I will have to do is cut off the bridge. I wish it were adjustable just for rappelling. Does anyone have any good solutions for rappelling in a real saddle? I’m obviously a sitdrag/harness guy.

Sorry @bongo I'm recovering from a pretty legit back injury, no climbing for me, I'm just hoping to not miss the whole season at this point!

Man I'll be praying for a speedy recovery. I missed a couple of seasons with a busted shoulder, and almost went stir crazy. Is it an old injury, or something new?

Thanks, man, really appreciate it, it's an old injury and a new injury they just happen to be the same location. I've had a big bulge in my L5S1 for a long time, and I just re-injured it, so it's a little bigger bulge now, lol and it's hitting the nerve, so lots of pain/tingling down my leg, I'm hoping to avoid surgery, we'll see, steroid shot last week, physical therapy, pain management etc.... Nothing happens fast as I'm sure you know with ur shoulder. Just praying i don't miss the season or at least all of it, it will be hard to hunt if I can't climb a tree and swing around in a saddle :(

BTW, I love this thread, it's turned into its own little animal!

Bowfin and Grennel in Ga. Depends on who you're talking to. But it sure is a nasty rascal either way.

Its for real and he partnered with @Erniepower who designed some reengineered version of his platform along with a stellar group of guys with crazy experience. Check out it all out at https://tethrdnation.com/

I bought a saddle and platform complete kit. This is gonna revolutionize saddle hunting. Lol get on board and get some hang time!!!!!

Crappie are part of the sunfish family. Perch belong to a different genera all together.

Local names catch on and stick. Like here in VA people call the Striped Bass, a Rockfish. Along the outer banks of NC “whiting” are called perch.

I did check out the website , more options for new saddle hunters. Im a multifaceted hunter but for my saddle hunting purpose im very happy with my kestrel and Evo from New Tribe and have those dialed in perfect for me. It will be interesting to watch what they come up with though.

If you have not try, “inversion therapy.” It can really help. I have avoided my back being operated on just my stretching etc. I feel for ya because I know what you are going through. When I ruptured my disc in college, MRI’s were just coming about. So I only had an X-Ray. The Dr. told me I had a deformity. I was like what the fu..., he told me just to rehab it. My roommates in college had to literally pick me up out of bed in the morning.
