Broadheads: What are you using?

Trying out ramcats this year. Like what I've seen so far.

Yeah, I know it is one of those things. But we don't fight like they do on AT. I can't even really bring myself to look at threads on that site.

Yup, I like peace. Opinions are just that and we are all entitled to them - the wonderful thing about living in a free society in Canada and the USA. Thanks to those who provided it and maintain it.
Poor information is rampant though. I like repeatable unbiased data - Study's that involve real science
And I believe in the source of all truth - because He sets you free.

Based on the history of this topic on Archerytalk, it should probably be banned from SH. Lol! Non-stop fights about it!

Rage 2 blade. Devastating.

There is definitely not a right answer here, just opinions based off personal experience. People are weirdly defensive of what broadheads they shoot. I've only tried thunderheads, G5 tekan (which I realized they are illegal in NY caused they are barbed), then the montecs and finally settled on the rage.

Yeah, I knew when I posted. I was just looking for starting point to do some research. And had seen these iron will broadheads but they are really expensive. Also American made and have a lifetime warranty. Look like a beast.

I believe Archery Talk is just that... Mostly Talk.
When I frequented that and several others that I don't anymore....there was ALOT of
conversations (as you stated arguments) from what seemed like ALOT (not all) of members who lived in grandma's basement posting late night chats in their skid marked tighty-whitey's who probably dont even enter the woods just lurking to argue...

Haven't experienced it here on saddlehunter yet, and hopefully wont. I very rarely purposely vist those other sights, only when a Google search question leads me there, I never log in anymore.

$100 for 3 .... ouch but I guess the lifetime warranty helps. Let me know if you fall in love with them! I try to support American made merch.

I will. I haven't decided yet but if I could use the same three for even 5 years I would consider that a good investment.

I think there are some other American made ones that have been mentioned as well.

Slick tricks are going to be my goto broadhead this year. Very well made head for the price! If price was no option, I love solid broadheads. But they jacked the price up so hi this year, it's not worth the price anymore.

On my crossbow I use Excalibur bolt cutter. I was thinking of trying a muzzy hybrid. Half fixed half mechanical Trocar 125 HBX .I have tried mechanicals before but they have opened at inconvenient times

Has anyone tried these. Opinions are welcome. Freedom of expression

I think the rage were illegal here in Tn because they were considered barbed be cause they didn't fold up once deployed.

That's news to me, good thing I hunt in Ohio

Is there anywhere that barbed broadheads are legal? I haven't seen one, that's why I ask.

Rage broadheads are not barbed, and they are legal in Tn

Steve, about 2010 or so the wording from the TWRA made them illegal in Tn it has been corrected. They do not fold back up once deployed and were considered barbed from the best I remember. I cannot tell you if it was the 2 blade or 3 blade

I don't know about the three-blade but the two blades do fold up after deployed the blades actually rattle around quite a bit

As stated earlier, barbed broadheads are illegal in NY and other states. In NY, I can tell you that the 2 blade rage are legal and the 3 blade are not. I have been checked by a CO and he specifically checked for this.

Also, since I previously mentioned that I plan to use ramcats this year which appear to be barbed at first glance, I talked with two NY CO's and since the blades fold forward when backing out of an animal to an angle less than 90 degrees to the ferrule, they are legal in NY.

Hope that helps someone for whatever it's worth....

Since we're talking NY here is their laws:
Barbed Broadheads Prohibited for Big Game

Barbed broadheads are illegal for hunting big game. A barbed broadhead is one in which the angle formed between the trailing or rear edge of any blade and the shaft is less than 90 degrees. A notch at the base of the blade extending no more than 2 millimeters from the shaft shall not be considered a barb. Broadhead examples on the right compare one that is barbed to three that are legal. Broadheads with retractable blades are legal. Broadheads with mechanical blades are legal if the blades DO NOT form a barb or hook when the arrow is pulled from the flesh of a deer or bear.
