But compared to 75° October’s in Texas... y’all get ALL KINDS of cold.

That is too hot. We just wear warm wool My favorite temperature is 32 degree F
Texas is smaller than Ontario and has snakes, hogs, hot weather, oil and deer

Ontario is bigger than Texas... eh.

We have one small poisonous snake in a few areas, we keep our hogs in the barn, we have very little oil and some deer and nice weather.

A high of 32 degrees F today. I guess that is why scent lok works here. I cannot believe G2 wears scent lok when it is 85 degrees.

Drilling all four sides of a 1/16 wall stick would put you about 1.4 pounds. Drilled at 1/2 inch diameter.

If you drilled it at 5/8 all the way around you would be under 1.4 pounds.
If you made a lighter versa button instead of a light cam cleat you could lose some weight too.
Is it safe??? I don't know.

Maybe you could drill drill 5/8 holes right to left and 3/8 holes facing you and get 1.4 pounds.

I wish I was an engineer so I knew how to test this.

His sticks are rated for 300lbs I believe don’t quote me on that the cam buckle ways around 6 onces so with 1/16 tubing your are right his weight. As far as testing I think you would see plastic deformation from the bolt at the step area before the tubing would bend that’s if you do the perforations correct

Not for stick but I’m a tool and die maker and have don’t it for different applications. Start with one side drill the hole way through the tubing not just one side both do that the length of the tubing then rotate the tubing 90 degrees start drilling at the center of the web between the two hole from previous side. If you google perforated sheet metal you’ll see the staggered effect I’m talking about.

Weird thought just popped in my head I wonder if the perforated tubing would whistle with wind?

Thanks my brother is a tool and die maker but he does not hunt and is toooo busy. Thanks I will look it up...I did not drill all the way through on the first stick but moved the hole on the other side . I did not drill 4 sides though.

I will be trying it.

I used a pair of Dan’s sticks all last season and they are awesome. I’m getting a kick out of how much effort you guys are putting into this to figure out how he came up with the weight. LOL!!
Wish I could share the secrets but hopefully Dan will allow us to talk more about them when they finally go into production.

Hey Dewey

I guess I am trying for fun and because Dans sticks probably will not be available this year correct? Or at least only a limited amount

Also I tried to order his DVDs. In the past and he does not like shipping to Canada.
It certainly does not save any money trying

I get a kick out of it to. If I remember right your testers were quite a bit heavier than 1.4lbs. I wish you could share some secrets too. I think I can hit a weight that I can accept, sticks I made for me to fit me. Even if it cost me a little more I’m good with it. I’m a fan of cam cleats which Dans sticks don’t have so I probably wouldn’t buy anyways. I’m definitely a DIY guy and have many ideas in my head.
I wish Dan the best of luck.

Thanks for selling me steps and sending them to Canada. I doubt Dan would send them north. I tried to order his DVDs. I could not make it happen.
My only concern about making my stick is safety. I am no engineer. Which is why I posted here so the critics would come out and give input.

Like how to drill holes on 4 sides of a stick. I was going to do it wrong. Thanks @20ftup

And cost. My sticks will cost more than Dans because of all the experimenting. But for the second guy doing it he will save from my mistakes
Sharing on a forum means someone else should not make the same mistake twice
The people who follow will find a DIY stick will be cheaper if you use existing sticks to build it.

Sounds like Dewey is trying to discourage the fun of trying

How many secrets can there be in building a stick. Materials yes
Removing materials yes
Standoff’s. Yes a lone wolf is half the weight of a muddy
Steps yes a muddy folding step is twice the weight of a @ImThere step.
Really give credit to the real original DIY
guy @bowhunter15.
Dan seems to be taking his ideas and making them better

So is @ImThere.
