Ditch the Ropeman

A linemans belt is typically not loaded much so a standard Prusik works fine. On my tether, I like a Prusik as well since I don't want to reach up and accidentally release the VT or other hitch. Unweighting, by standing on platform to adjust tether is just a compromise I will deal with. Pulling on a friction hitch that is designed to release under pressure may not be safe, IMHO. I know, backup knots at tether end and all but do you really want to slide from your friction hitch to your tether end uncontrollably? Most people are supporting their entire weight on their tether so this connection better be secure.

The shizlls are nice but that's a fair amount of metal for me. One of these rings and a piece of 1.5mm cord and you can create a cheap easy tender that allows you to have very short legs on your distel hitch. Plus brass doesn't have the ting of steel or aluminum.

That's fair, but they are really pretty small, and the way that they are wedged between the 2 tails doesnt really give it much opportunity to make any noise.

I think almost all negative comments on the Shizll come from people who have never tried one.

Agreed. I was all ready to tape mine up to quiet them down. But after the first use it was apparent that it wasn’t needed.

I had no idea these things even existed until a few days ago, and I've been using and reading about lineman's belts and tethers for years.
I certainly didn't realize how many different options you had to inexpensively tend your prusik knot. Anytime I can eliminate mechanical parts from a system (and maintain reliability) I'm all for it.
Lots of good ideas being tossed out in this thread.

Anyone have pics on how the shizzl tender should be tied in to the system?

What is that? I carry Kong products but haven't seen this one before. Its not a Shizll.
Hehee! It's a mini figure 8 brass trinket that Kong sells on Amazon. Kind of a gift for those that climb. They can be had for about $5.

Works like a charm. The large hole is dead on for 8mm and the little hole is just right for paracord.

I'mean guessing Amazon will now be sold out in less than 5 days... ;-)

This Shizll looks great, but might be a little big on 8mm OpLux. Anyone tried it out yet? I've also only found one place that sells them - TreeStuff.com.

My Kong rep already got back with me about those keychains and I can order these direct - MSRP is $1.00. Hmm, wish I could predict the future so I would know how many to order. @Red Beard - do these really work great on 8mm? Would they also work for 9mm do you think?
