You guys are over-complicating it.

I have been setting up my daughter's boyfriend to hunt out of a sitdrag. We have everything but the ropeman. If you can find them, they are 45 bucks or more. Imagine my delight when I stumbled onto this thread. So I sewed up my own simple version. Light, quiet and works like a charm.

Final version uses a much shorter prusik. Basically, a two inch "tag end" so it becomes a short reach and appears to bind quicker.

Good stuff guys. Thank you. Pete

I highly recommend getting some decent cord and ditching the cotton or whatever that is.

Side question, does anyone know if a 3/8 (9.5mm) rope will feed through those kong keychains or is the bigger hole too small?

I've only ever used 9mm HTP (haven't joined the OpLux crowd yet) and that runs through it uber-freely. I would imagine 9.5 would work. I'll try some 10.5mm this evening and let you know if that fits.

I want to say he's talking about the ropeman but I could be wrong

No, I think I remember someone emailed Beal and they did no recommend using the cut and tied Jammy in our applications

Yeah I wanted to try out the klemheist first just to see if I could keep the jammy as is instead of cutting it. Just testing it last night the kong tended the hitch better than I could have imagined. Super smooth. I'll test it out at ground height when I've got a chance before I get in a tree but it seems like the only drawback will be keeping it dressed. I'll report back.

Is this published info and do you have a link to it? I have never heard that Tether discussed and WC approved RM 1 use for the way we use it.
Nothing published but talk to Ernie and he can fill you in.

It's a frickin rock climbing ascender ...

If it's not published by Wild Country, I would take it with a grain of salt. I'm pretty confident that they would not approve their product for some of the uses I have seen on this site. It's an ascender and is designed for use with static loads, not as fall protection.

You are at tension all the time. We aren't using it to catch a fall.
Call Wild Country and ask.

Beal's response is posted here. I do not remember it being like that at all...
And for reference their response linked :
