I made a few over the years. The easiest one was an old 3/8" ratchet. I fitted the drill bit in a set screw socket, then drilled a hole and fitted a wooden handle in the ratchet handle end. Pop the socket off and it fits nicely in a pocket.Man, I bet a full sized bit and brace is HEAVY!

Could you not just use lag bolt and a ratchet instead of bolts and a drill bit. Lags are pointed and would work like screw in steps. A 7 inch 3/8 lag grade A is less than a buck. In season use a ratchet out of season use an cordless impact. Anyone try this , I might.

Well, I broke down and paid EZKut the $60 they wanted for their hand drill. Since it folds so small, and is so light. I'll carry the kreg bit and power drill before season, and hand drill in season.
