Well, I've played with several versions of this set up and heres what works perfect for me.
1.Total height of stick is 10".
2. Total climbing hieght per move is 6ft
3. Platform depth to tree is 9 inches with 6 inches of actual platfor width
4. Platform width is 15 inches
5. Total weight is 3.4 lbs.

Looks nice. How well do you think four short sticks with aider would do?

4 short sticks and a movable aider would be great. I guess its just personal preference. If I was going to carry 4 sticks, I would probably opt for 18 inch sticks and a movable aider. This is kind of set up specifically for 1 stick climbing.

Does the platform seem to be in the way when standing on the bottom step?

I've got a similar helium based concept I'm just itching to try out. Ironically "work from home"is more demanding than "go in to work" and I've had no time that wasn't also filled with honey do's.

If I remember right the weight on mine is 3.3lbs

Your stick looks good. I did something similar last fall but didn't cut the stick.

I did something similar to this as well, last season. Actually used it quite a bit. Started out with a homemade WE Perch style, didnt like the steps, so cut it down and welded it to the helium.

How does it do when you put side pressure on it like if you had to shoot behind the tree? Does it want to kick out at all? Been tempted to try something similar but don’t want to hack away if it’s going to kick out.

I havent had enough time in it to say for sure, but I did climb with it and work my way all around the tree with no problems. I did put extensive side pressure on it while testing, but still have to check it out a bit more to say for sure.

Do you have a build thread? Where did you purchase the cam cleats?
