Hawk helium sticks

I recently switch from amsteel to hollow braid polypropylene for my xop platform I use a Brummell splice with jim stepp knot. I noticed the amsteel starting to fray a bit.

Where did you find the hollow braid at?

Put versa buttons on mine. I don't like their strap system, but with the versa buttons they are the best stick I've used.
Was it hard to switch to the versa buttons? I have long wolf climbing sticks and my only issue with them is I prefer the double step.

If I remember correctly you just swap out the hardware from hawks and put the Versa button there. Easiest mod ever... possibly. I like that w the lone wolf straps, is that you can actually remove them where on hawk you can not.

Just swap hardware. Bolts should fit but it might be tight. I widened the holes just slightly but I don't think you have to.

I did the same as Red2Delta. I simply used a 1/4" dia reamer and the hardwear fit perfectly. I am using 3/8 amsteel till the 8mm static arrives. After reading through the post i figured better safe than sorry. As for the sticks I like them when wearing boots but not so much in running shoes! they hurt my feet so bad I am thinking of selling my kestral if i dont get a platform made soon but till i do get a kit from Ernie or mill my own from solid aluminum I have gone back to using my xop lock on. When I use the lock on as the platfom its the bees knees and i like the saddle but when forced to stand on the hawk sticks with light shoes on I would rather take a kick to the nuts and just go to the house. It would be great to use on terrorist in liu of waterboarding

Thats funny. Although I am not sure why you would wear running shoes hunting. The teeth on the steps are quite jagged. I am sure you could do something to smooth them out.

By the way if anybody decides to stealth strip the hawks I would not recommend removing the steps as you will spending a lot of time in confession at church from all the swear words from trying to get the inside washers back in.

Because it was 95 degress here and the rubber boots filled up with sweat. Nah they are fine being jagged. I am going to mill me a post and make a platform stand.

This thread has answered a lot of questions for me. I'm in the research phase of getting into a saddle, and have been trying to figure out if I'd like to get the Muddy Pros, or the Hawk Heliums. I like the idea of the double step on both sticks. I was torn because I like the idea of the rope on the Muddys for quietness, and ease of setup. But the price of the Heliums with the many great reviews has me leaning that way. With reading about the different rope mods for the Heliums, and the price point, I think the Heliums may be the winner.

I have the helium sticks and love them. I have made them into a 2 step stick and converted them over to ropes as well. You mentioned price. Be aware that it will cost you more to get helium sticks and do the mods than to buy the muddy sticks to start with. Not Trying to talk you out of them but I think I have spent as much after my mods ...... But I would probably do it again

Definitely something to consider. Thank you. I kind of wondered with the Muddys being so much shorter, as to the height is be able to reach. Even with aiders on each type. I believe the Muddy comes in packs of 4,and the Hawk in packs of 3. Was also looking at number of sticks being carried.

@Firefox23 . I personally think that it is worth the cost. The heliums are the lightest sticks on the market in a two step climbign stick, which can be an important characteristic for us saddle hunters. The rope modification is a definite must. I recently did the conversion and it is so much quieter and more efficient ( i used the lone wolf versa buttons and bought the muddy safe line from BP for $29 to make all 3 rope sections).Works perfectly. I have not doen the stealth strips yet but plan to once i can scrounge up some extra change. Good luck, I am glad this thread helped you.

I'm assuming that you cut the Muddy safety line into 3 10' lengths, and melted the ends?

What do you put in them to silence and a
Camo the Helium sticks? Do the stealth strips cover?
