Live from the tree 2017 version

image.jpg Nothing like the opening morning kinks. Spent extra ten minutes on camera arm setup, quick connect sitting on kitchen counter. It's only 75.... oh well I'm in a tree!

Cooler weather in GA this morning. Thank God! C'mon deer!

First hunt in a saddle and it was great! Well besides taking a marginal shot on a doe and not recovering her. Bad decision to shoot. 1/4 away and my shot was too high and too forward. I hate when I regress to a 12 year old decision maker. Happens every few years sometimes it pays off and other times like today it doesn't. I won't make that mistake again. However a great sit in the leather TL! Gotta sit on the other side of the road this pm as I just spent 3 hrs tracking ....

Sat out for Michigan's bow opener behind my house this morning... not in a saddle though. 5 deer total a doe and two fawns at first light then get busted by two doe @ 70-80 yards. I suspect they may have winded me but it's possible she saw me fidgeting while I was trying to put eyes on the other doe that was with her. My scent regime is less than perfect this year so i wouldn't be surprised if I did get winded.

Shot 4. Found 2. Gave up on the other 2 after I got chased by a moccasin and nearly stepped on a rattlesnake. The coyotes and Gators can have the others.

I hate snakes enough that I'm not sure I could hunt there.
I killed a rattlesnake a few years ago in middle December. More people get bit working in their yards than hunting. I hunted a piece of property the owner of the company I work for yesterday. Got there really early since a tornado came through back in the spring. I ended up spreading fertilizer on food plots until about 4:30. I had about four spots in mind to hunt and wound up having to come up with a fifth. Had a deer blow at me while tying on my third stepp about 40 yards away. Directly up wind so it couldn't smell me but must have seen something it didn't like. While climbing a onto my fifth stepp a small six point came from the same direction the deer blew from. Thought I was busted but managed to tie on my sixth seventh and eighth step with the little buck about 8 yards from my tree. Made a little noise climbing onto them and he went to about 20 yards and stayed there rubbing on a licking branch over a scrape until after I got tied in and my bow and pack pulled up and set up. I could hear deer walking through the flooded bottom behind me during setup. I settled in for what was obviously going to be an awesome evening in the woods. It was 5:30 and I didn't see another deer. Oh well it was nice to have even a small one under the stand.

In your picture you appeared to be sitting. I was never comfortable in the sit drag sitting. If you have a good platform it's pretty comfortable leaning.
