It's getting freakin cold. The temp has to have dropped 10 degrees easy. No way I'm leaving before dark but I'm switching up the gear when I get home for sure. Time to break out the wool.

Plan fell apart this morning. Rain kept me out until right at first light. My observation tree wasn't going to work so I tried getting in my old lock-on but realized I didn't bring my RC harness. Looked up and a decent buck was standing at 50 yards. He blew and ran off.

So I decided to tuck in behind some farm equipment in the fence row watching the next field over where I knew they would be. Sure enough I saw 4 or 5 does in the corner right in front of my camera.

Then I saw a small buck so I grunted. He hopped the fence and walked to within 10 yards! Never knew I was there.

On my way out I saw that same little buck tending a doe in the front cow pasture.

Good day and I've got a new tree set up in the field where all of the action is for in the morning.

I stuck with the known tree. It was too foggy and wet for me to feel comfortable trying a new one and this was my first hunt after the time change. I was pushing it a little to get set up as early as I like to. I looked around after I got down though and found some other possibilities. Rifle season opens Saturday. Some of those trees will work better for that.

I have noticed more guys using a one antlered decoy.. do you notice bucks circling to the antlerless side? I have heard this is the intended tactic behind the one antlered buck.

No deer yet in my prime spot. It's really an afternoon spot but all I have is mornings.

Just got back up the tree because my release came off my bow. Gotta love it!

I dropped mine in the snow on Sunday. Sucks but I always carry two just in case. I was worried I wouldn't find it in the snow, but thankfully I did. I wasn't so lucky when my knot on my grappling let loose. I was using it to pull some branches back and tie them off. Well the knot let go and who knows where my hook shot off to.

I have one but don't think it would've helped. It's a thumb release and there are a LOT of limbs between me and the ground.

I had a back up in my pack but it's not there now.

Is that a man made water hole I see?
If so, how was it made? Self filling, or does it require fill ups. Does it generate some deer traffic?

It's a concrete cattle water hole. There's a few on this property. I believe they fill from rain water.

I'm sure the deer use it as this field is off limits to the cows but I have yet to see them use it.

At work there is a 20 acre swamp out back. I was outside on the phone today and looked over in the swamp and saw a buck dogging a doe. As soon as I was off the phone I grabbed my muzzleloader out if the truck and snuck back into the swamp. Long story short I ended up getting a shot and he tucked his tail and ran. After reloading I eased over closer and saw him get up and sneak off. At this point I backed out and went back to work and came back later in the day. Never could find blood. I am not sure what to think. Will look more tomorrow. He was no monster {Maybe 120") but still a decent buck.

First sit in one of my honey holes. I snuck into a hang on this morning and watched five does make their way into an overgrown pasture. No buck with them. Same as the other night when three big jugheads came out with no buck around. I went home and came back with 12 steps and my saddle. I'm 15 yards from my hang on but it won't allow me the shot I need. I just got settled in. I rarely get this east wind here so I have to use it while I have it. First pic is where they're walking.

Can't say as it's the only way I use it. I added the antler from a shed I had. I wanted something large enough to interest the big boys, but yet still look vulnerable.

This is my first year with a full body. I've used the Montanas with success so I searched and found one on CL.
