Lone Wolf Custom Gear

Isn’t LWCG using water jet and Dan using machining. Either way a patent on either to make a tree stand would be kind of ridiculous IMO. If Dan’s stands are like his sticks they’ll be too hard to get anyway. I’m still guessing that LWCG or LW might be able to use the cut outs for their cast products and that makes it much more viable. I could be wrong though.
Is it any more ridiculous than patenting making cast metal treestands? (neither are ridiculous) It's clearly a unique and attractive step forward or we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I saw Dan say on the Beast about a week ago that he owned provisional patents on machining, water jet, and flame cutting tree stands.

I hear you, but to me it doesn’t seem fair to patent such a common way to cut metal to make a stand. If they were also inventing the process to create the stand it would make more sense to me. I know nothing about patents though. Now I’m gonna go get a patent for 3D printing a stand so no one else can. I mean at some point I would think the patent has to be more about the actual design of the stand rather than the tool used to create it.

You're understating the advance here - there have not been any stands at all machines from a block of metal. Lone wolf certainly didnt invent casting metal (to continue the very relevant example).

If it doesn't matter, make your stand some other way. If it does (if there's a valid patent) and this is a novel advancement - then get a license.

Think of it this way - designing a stand this light and strong, made of metal, while staying 1-piece quiet possibly requires you to machine it from a solid chunk of metal which has not been previously done.

Wait until you hit 60 or more years

Your right. I'm nowhere near 60 but I'm not 20 either. I understand for some people it's necessary to sacrifice some things for the sake of weight. I just think some take it way too far and sacrifice functional gear all because of a few ounces. As I stated in another thread, I didn't jump on the predator wagon because for me the predator wasnt what I wanted in a platform. Yes it's lightweight and looks really cool but too small for what I like in a platform. The assassin and the LWCG platform weighs almost twice as much but suits me much better so I'll carry it. I'm not going to stop carrying climbing sticks or a bow or a rifle because they can be heavy or awkward so I wouldn't hesitate to carry a 5lb platform either. Just a few years ago most of us were carrying 20-30lb climbers. So to me a 5lb platform sounds fine. Just the way I look at it.

I understand, that makes a little sense to me. I see where there could possibly be something to that. It’s still very hard to see it as they stole Dan’s idea or process. Maybe if Dan was already producing and selling these stands it be easier to understand, but I get it, it doesn’t matter if he’s making them or not if he has a legit patent. I’m sure that will all be resolved one way or another. I just hope it doesn’t interfere with production.

The more I think about it, the more Im less concerned about the pricing of things. My buddy pays $800/month on his 100 acres. Yeah he'll own the land one day and that is the "ultimate dream" but $800 a month is way out of my price range. Plus on 100 acres you can only hunt so much till you start to burn spots out. Hunting public is free, I can be aggressive and if I blow a spot, I can go to a new one. If I have to spend even $1500 to have exactly what works perfect for me to hunt anywhere, thats not so bad when you think about it. At least that's how I'll pitch it to the old lady

The LWCG looks like a great set up, but it falls short of a game changer from my perspective.

The user is still hauling around a chunk of metal that is 20” wide? The load shelf is cool, but load that thing up with layers, gear, etc... and you are still very, very far from streamline.

If you are walking through squirrel woods on a 2-track, it probably doesn’t matter much, but if you are going through brush tunnels to get to your tree, this set up is still going to be loud and suck.

Agree. I could shave a few pounds by using the new stand compared to my LW Assault. Weight savings wouldn't be much between my Beast sticks(Versa Straps) and the new sticks but pack ability might be better but no double step. But you still end up with the same bulk to negotiate thur the woods. Dang it.....I want that new stand. What's wrong with me!

I’d say you’d be shaving at least 4 pounds between stand and sticks. Plus the way it packs is WAY less bulk and it’s gonna feel more like 10lbs less. I always liked my hand climber because it packs so tight and carries well. Now they have the advantages of a hang on that’s lighter and packs just as well. To me it’s a game changer and then some. It will never replace a saddle but I will surely be trying one out. Problem I see with the platform is it’s only a couple pounds less than the stand and is gonna be harder to figure out how to carry, but it is sweet that the sticks will pack onto it as well.

The LWCG is a good stand. There was another stand at ATA called the Summit "Featherweight". The interviewer asked them how much the stand weighed and he said "it's just 17 pounds". So yeah, a tree stand that's 7 pounds is pretty amazing. It's going to cost a lot. It's made out of a huge chunk of aluminum in the USA and it's something no one else has. In the outdoor market, people wanted lightweight tents that performed better than nylon or polyester. Now you have cuben fiber tents that cost $500 - $700 and people pay for them.

I thought how the sticks stacked on the stand is a great idea
but I don't think the material and the way they lock will last
I bet in the short future this design will wear and the sticks will start falling out

IMO this is going to bite them
love the concept, but my experience in mechanical design this is going to be a wear item
I've seen this type of mating of components not last in the long run, and since we put our gear to the extremes
I don't think they've had enough time in the field, rushing to get this product to market

Anyone who has seen this directly make a comment of this mating of sticks to stand look like it will last
I can see your point but the metal won’t wear out so if the grommets pop in and out, which they should, it would just mean replacing them. Could be wrong though.

Saw a prototype of the so called saddle . It's not made like a saddle looks more like a sling . We will have to wait for the final product. The platform looks nice it's looks bigger than the Predator platform. I like a smaller platform myself so I think I'll stick with the Predator. The sticks that they have are nice . A little pricey. Suppose to come with ethier a rope or strap your choice of which one you prefer.

Yeah the "saddle" looks a lot like a weight lifting belt with a bridge. I don't know if you sit in it or wear it as a back brace as Kuhnert was in numerous videos posted on here already.
