Aider question for you guys. Is there anything unsafe, or less safe with having an aider that you can cinch onto your boot? It seems that would simplify climbing up and down. Thx Pete
Keep your moves shorter once you get off the first stick. What is a comfortable distance for the vertically challenged guys. I am older and not real tall. I have a 31 inch inseam which is really what we should be talking about with aiders. Our overall height is probably less important.I can try it out, but I am sketchy of using multiple aiders once I get above the first stick.
I have thought of that. If you fell and were not attached to the tree and the aider caught something like a stick it might possibly pull you sideways or in a unlikely worst case up side down. I think that this is probably more of a probability with the easy aider because of design but I think the risk is very low. Keep your aider organized . Nothing we do is without risk once we leave the ground unfortunately. Most of life's activities involve risk. Drive your car, walk down a busy city streetAider question for you guys. Yup do what works for you.my inseam is 30 inches. I think we all have to experiment and then develop a system that works for us as an individual. For me, multi-step aiders are too unreliable in the dark and like I said, 3 sticks and one fixed loop aider gets me where I want to be - so for me adding a ropeman to adjust my foot aider or to pull it higher is just not necessary. For others it may be the cat's meow.
There is none right now. I'm going to make one in the offseason.Where Can I find a video for red squirrels aiders. Thinking of going with something like that over my stepps

I don't think this would work with a stick, but it might work when the aider is girth hitched around the tree. Give it a shot.I would do the same thing with this setup, that way if I slipped, my toe off the tree etc, I wouldn't end up sideways or upside down.
It's really nice having an older guy like me here on the site that knows that we are sometimes challenged in our climbing methods.Keep your moves shorter once you get off the first stick. Having your foot cinched in the aider seems to add to my confidence and having that wide foot loop. I think the loop is probably 3 or 4 inches wide.
