Rope Mod, not sold

Can anyone post pics of how you are packing your helium sticks with the strap and buckles?
I will as soon as I get home from work. I switched the original straps out for Lonewolf straps and versa buttons. I should have you pics by 3 pm.

First, pull lenghten the strap just about as far is it will go (leave a little bit so you can easily grab it). Next stack two of the sticks, then run each of the straps (one at a time) up/over and down the top stand off, down the back side of the sticks (tree side) up through the bottom stand off and then hook the strap normally and tight the strap. Next stack the last stick on top of the other two, lengthen the strap as before, then wrap it around all three sticks, being sure to tighten it up around the other buckles so that don't move and make noise. Hook the strap on the stick and normal and snug it up.

I'm a bucklehead... The weigth they create on the end of the strap seems to make it easier to grab the strap the first time its tossed around the tree.

I think this is the route im going to go. I like the piece of mind with the buckle

I'm using lone wolf sticks and 7mm accessory cord. As long as I start with my rope higher than the versa button and pull it tight before wrapping it the stick hardly moves down at all when you put weight on it.

One advantage for the ropes (which I like) is the ability to get around larger trees. The buckles are much easier, but the straps don't wrap around many of the large oak bases i hunt in OK.

For me, there's a difference between talking about 8mm rope and amsteel. It it were a question between silenced buckles and 8mm rope with a knot, I'm not sure the tradeoff is worth it. But if you're comparing to amsteel it's a different comparison. Amsteel is lighter, has less stretch, is stronger, and can have a lower profile spliced eye vs. rope.

I still like amsteel for a rope mod. I like silenced buckles as well. They both have their advantages.

Could you provide info on what size or place to get the Amsteel? I am wanting to change my lonewolf from buckle to rope.

Thanks

Amsteel, been working for me a long time. I don't get any more set then with straps.

Most Amsteel rope modders are using 1/4. While I don’t think it will slip.. I just don’t have that warm and fuzzy. I’m a Amsteel daisy chain sort of dude. For that I’ve got 1/4” all the way down to 7/64

I love the rope mod personally. I think for me, given the areas I hunt, being quiet is more important than speed. IMO the rope mod helps me to be quieter...

Yes I believe it was. I guess I should add that I did swamp the brackets out and put versa buttons on my heliums.
If I was going to run straps it would be with the versa strap mods. I’m not a huge fan of the hawk straps.

I recently purchased a set of hawk helium sticks, lone wolf buttons and 8mm accessory cord. I've been playing with them in my backyard and I'm not a huge fan of the rope mod. I feel like it's slow and the amount of drop from starting position makes it difficult to space accurately. Sure they may save a few ounces I'm going back to the buckles.

I like my Hawk helium stock. I I one stick climb and to me hitting the button on the buckle and sliding the stick up and cinching it is a cinch. To each their own

The amount of weight savings are truly negligible, because your body probably won’t even be able to physically perceive the pound-or-so difference between ropes vs straps. Also, the cam buckles on straps are not THAT loud. I have never covered them with inner tube; never stealth-stripped them to a razor’s edge; just be methodical and don’t go clanging that buckle on everything in the woods.
In short: I feel like rope mods are simply an excuse to further DIY your kit. That’s fine, just be honest. I think when people say they’re saving weight, or reducing noise, they’re largely blowing smoke. They just wanna bling their gear out, and really, don’t we all?

I'm still deciding but with the new buckle-less LW type strap method Nutterbuster demonstrated yesterday seems like a feasible option to consider for both camps. I have found that I am quieter using buckles if I pack the straps in with my sys-hauler and take the time to put the straps on the sticks as I go up. It is a bit more methodical but it slows me down enough to watch what I'm doing and they aren't swinging all over as you pack them in. Unless I really strap everything down, the buckles on the sticks during carry in always seem to work with gravity and work themselves loose or dangle which ticks me off.

I'm not sure I agree with this. Personally, the weight doesn't bother me, I typically don't count ounces like many do but, the noise is huge for me. There is nothing worse then being slow, methodical and super quiet the last 100 yards to your stand because you know you could be close to deer and then having a buckle slip and "ting". Sitting there all evening not knowing if that mistake cost you an opportunity sucks.

Also, using buckles requires me to focus on the buckle to make sure it doesn't slip or make noise. If there are no buckles to worry about I can pass straps around the tree, etc without looking or worrying about noise and keep my eyes on the woods.

With three kids and little time I usually don't DIY a lot of stuff unless it's worth it. To me, getting rid of buckles is one of those things that are worth my time.
