For me, there's a difference between talking about 8mm rope and amsteel. It it were a question between silenced buckles and 8mm rope with a knot, I'm not sure the tradeoff is worth it. But if you're comparing to amsteel it's a different comparison. Amsteel is lighter, has less stretch, is stronger, and can have a lower profile spliced eye vs. rope.
I still like amsteel for a rope mod. I like silenced buckles as well. They both have their advantages.

Could you provide info on what size or place to get the Amsteel? I am wanting to change my lonewolf from buckle to rope.
Thanks
If I was going to run straps it would be with the versa strap mods. I’m not a huge fan of the hawk straps.Yes I believe it was. I guess I should add that I did swamp the brackets out and put versa buttons on my heliums.
I recently purchased a set of hawk helium sticks, lone wolf buttons and 8mm accessory cord. I've been playing with them in my backyard and I'm not a huge fan of the rope mod. I feel like it's slow and the amount of drop from starting position makes it difficult to space accurately. Sure they may save a few ounces I'm going back to the buckles.
The amount of weight savings are truly negligible, because your body probably won’t even be able to physically perceive the pound-or-so difference between ropes vs straps. Also, the cam buckles on straps are not THAT loud. I have never covered them with inner tube; never stealth-stripped them to a razor’s edge; just be methodical and don’t go clanging that buckle on everything in the woods.
In short: I feel like rope mods are simply an excuse to further DIY your kit. That’s fine, just be honest. I think when people say they’re saving weight, or reducing noise, they’re largely blowing smoke. They just wanna bling their gear out, and really, don’t we all?
Too bad the weight-saving jihadists that gave us lightweight carabiners have not turned their attention to cam buckles.
