SaddlePalooza - Feb 16-19, 2018 - LIVE FROM PIGVILLE

Ok so I'm way late to this Party, Started reading this over the weekend. I don't even have a saddle yet but can tell its going to be how I'm hunting in the future. I'm already to find out where and when Saddlepalooza is next year! I want to hunt pigs in February!
yeah I know.....I'm just wondering what kind of options moving it to one of those "cheap" ranches opens up.
And not that there is anything wrong with trying to do it public either... but its an internet hunting forum.

We will figure out how to do it best by finding the guy to tell us how to do it best
Just for hunting less pressured hogs and baiting and night hunting opportunities. I've hunted Stewart past 6 years and more and more people are there hunting pigs. They're hounded year round non stop. They bed in the impact zones and only move at night.

maybe you guys have stopped the march? Still waiting for predicted pig zerg in VA

Hey did anyone film Ernie’s spurs demonstration? I heard it was excellent and would love to see it if anyone maybe @g2outdoors filmed it????

I wondered the same thing about @Plinker22
Thanks guys. In was trying to let Ernie, Big Country and Bongo act concerned before I said anything. :D
I'm doing great. The drive home was miserable. But I rested well and worked the last two days.
Thanks for checking on my guys.

G2 & Red, what a great even.

Even though I was sick, I truly enjoyed the time there. Watching Ernie climb so freely was inspiring.
Bongo giving me unlimited private lesson time was invaluable. You are the bomb Brother. Thanks again.
Big Country was kind to check on me, making sure I was alive after a LONG SICK night.
G2, your knowledge was freely shared and I tried to soak it up like a sponge. The tutorial on burying rope and locking loops (wrong terms, I know) were perfect. Your food choices and prizes were spot on. Thanks for all you did to make this weekend happen.

Man I'm glad to hear ya shook that bug. Had ya in my prayers brother. It was a sight to see how excited you were to become a saddlehunter, just like the rest of us.

I don’t think anyone got it on film. He was as nimble as an elf, and strode though the treetops as easily as walking along a groomed trail. He would have made a great addition to Cirque Du Soleil.

Hey Doc how are you feeling? Sorry I didn't check on you but didn't think you would be up when I left and were gone when I returned. Don't worry about climbing lessons next time my back hurts you are the man. Now get a saddle and start practicing.

This has been a fantastic read. I've been working nights in SE Texas and SW LA for the last month. Skipped the thread intentionally to avoid the envy. Absolutely no surprise that that the comrodery was strong from the start. This SH community is solid. Sure hope to be a part of the SPaloozaness next year.

The pig hunting was terrible this year but it would still have been a great trip if we had left the weapons at home. The pigs didn’t move much at all during daylight hours. They do get pressured some year round but all the pigs were not held up in the impact zones. The place is huge and some of the units are 5+ miles from the closest impact zone. We probably could have coordinated our efforts and more people hunted the same areas to make pigs move. I think the weather had a lot to do with it. They kill pigs there in July in a hundred degree weather but at that point they have to get up to drink. I think we just caught them where it was warm enough they didn’t want to move but cool enough they were happy just laying up.
The paid hog hunts are reasonable and success rates run higher. I don’t know of any that could handle 30+ hunters. I don’t think I would pay to hunt hogs but I can hunt them for free without driving far.

Yes sir I would have a hard time paying to hog hunt just to up my odds of killing a pig. I don't think the hogs is the reason most showed up to hunt. Most come from places with hogs and can hunt them at home, NC, TX, GA, FL, LA, MS even TN has hogs.

I agree. I could have skipped hunting all together and been happy. I didn’t go out Saturday morning and just hung around camp with some of the guys and that was my favorite part of the whole weekend. The pigs were definitely in every area I hunted, I just wasn’t lucky enough to stumble into them, and I’m completely fine with that
