Team 10

Glad to hear you’re on the mend. Get a crossbow, all the cool kids are going it.
I have nothing against them, my wife has one I can use and it’s an option but more of a last resort. Two days ago I couldn’t walk 5 steps to the bathroom without passing out, today I am walking the hallways, struggling but able to do it. Just getting into the woods and being able to get to the areas I hunt will be a challenge. I also shoot a 60lb longbow, getting away from it for 14 days would be a struggle in itself. We are just not sure what the recovery looks like yet or what limitations it will be stuck with.

Well, it’s good you’re still with us and vertical. One day at a time!

I'm getting antsy to get back in the woods. Was thinking about going today but decided to have a few beers and hang out with my dog instead. He turns 14 later this month so don't have much time left with him. Looks like I should be able to duck out of work a bit early tomorrow and get back in a tree so barring any last minute things coming up that's my plan. Gotta charge my headlamp, it died during the drag out last time... Would love to post up some more points but I don't have the hubris to expect it on back to back hunts. Fingers crossed.

I feel ya.... Saturday can't get here quick enough.

I looking over the map and wind predictions trying to formulate some type of plan. I think I stick to the same routine and start out the first morning somewhere down at the south end. It's calling for WNW wind which sets up good for heading out into the pine savannah. Hunting out there takes me way out of my element but it's an adventure and I might learn something new. I plan on heading in and setting up on this finger of salt marsh going out into the pines.....the shadows off these pines tells me they real tall so I should be able to get up in 1 of them real easy. It's not hard to get to just a long walk to get thereScreenshot_20231018-230710~3.png

I just landed myself in the ER. Didn’t even get to hit the grouse hunt to hard, and still up in the UP with the wife kid and dog. I am thinking my plans to get out any time soon are not going to happen. They are doing piles of tests but count me out of the race until they get this figured out.

Good luck out there and be safe fellas.

Best of luck on a speedy recovery. Keep us updated on your improvements!

Anyone seeing bucks follow does this close yet? SW Michigan and this guy is clearly trailing her. Seems a little early but I guess if the sign is there ya can’t ignore it.

I’m not sure but I may have. The day I harvested my buck I had seen two others that were locking antlers, and the buck I harvested came in on the same trail the does normally take and only 20 minutes after two does had been on it, so maybe. Rut normally hits around 1st - 2nd week of November where I live but maybe it’s a bit early this year.

The buck I shot last week was in seeking phase. I didn't see him until he annoyed the doe I was looking at and she bounded off. A few seconds later he emerged from behind the same bush but didn't make it too far after that ;)

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'm not sure I have the strength to pass on... anything I've got a tag for lol. Plus I'm not skilled enough to know when I might get another opportunity

Edit, too : not sure how I got on the team 10 thread. My bad

Oh I was fully planning to shoot the doe. Was mad for a second when she bounded off from behind the bush without giving me a shot because I thought for a moment I'd messed it up. Then I saw him.

I'm back in a tree in the same general area. Bumped a doe coming in/setting up. Hope there's more, if it's brown it's down baby.

After dark edit: nope, nothing else came in except a fox I've seen in this area a few times

I love watching a fox work. They are so quick.

I'm hunting PA for a doe/observation sit in the morning and then NJ for either sex in the afternoon. I have a buddy, my one brother, and one BIL invited; so if more than one comes, we can lock this spot down pretty good without being stupid. I have 5 locations that could support people without cutting someone else off, the spots on those locations will be wind dependent. Pretty hopeful for the afternoon, the morning weather looks miserable lol.

It's buck only now in the wma im at. I'm not confident going into it but that's the case for every hunt hahahaha

Calling for nice weather. Contingency plans A-H are in the back of my mind. Hopefully won't need that many. I was just telling my hunting buddy how I make all these plans and when I get there throw them all out the window. Hahaha he does the same...what about u guys?

I've been trying to stick to my plans this year unless wind or deer activity changes it. So I change my plans a lot still lol

I just find being spontaneous is more fun. I like seeing new things. I got the couple spots I'll sit season to season but other people know and like those spots too so it's hard to count on them. I don't know how.many times I'll be driving in with every intention of going to a predetermined location and I'll see a parking area with no trucks that I never been in, and I just pull over for whatever reason. There are deer all up and down this whole wma at every pull in...I just gotta go find them. I strike out a lot and waist lots of time/energy sometimes but I always seeing something new.

I'll be out Monday and Tuesday night this upcoming week. Then hopefully Friday nights Saturday all day as well. When are you going to be hunting next?

I was able to pull my bow back three times yesterday. I took a drive to the feed store with my father in law yesterday, walked in and got some feed and pushed the cart out to the car and about passed out and had to have my father in law drive me home I felt so bad. I am getting better daily but still not enough to get out. I am hoping by the end of the week I can drag myself out there but no matter where I am at, I will be sitting somewhere in the woods for the rut the following week.

Take er easy!

I'm at a loss at the moment. I think I paddled past a buck that made a fresh scrape south of the persimmon grove. Waiting on a good wind but I don't know how habitual that route is. Never hunted a travel corridor like that with success.

Scouted a handful of little parcels and this WMA just ain't doing it for me. Not a lot of scat, few tracks. Nothing that's got me excited.

Tried to kill a squirrel.

Might look at a few further WMAs that have some antler restrictions.

Skunked.....my truck broke down Friday on the way home from work so I had to steal my wife's car. Saturday I was having a real hard time getting motivated. I sat on the couch for an hour debating....so I showed up late and there was vehicles.parked at all the places I wanted to go. I know this place pretty good and there are "permeant" stands spread out all over. They are all homemade and been there for years. Since I was running behind and there wasn't a vehicle at the access I went in light with no climbing method or platform and climbed up the galvanized pipe stand and transfered from the stand up into the crotch were the trunk splits and tethered in. Didn't see/here nothing so climbed down and went exploring. Walked the majority of the day not finding much. I bailed on that area and drove up to an area I've hunted before. I didn't see anything. I blame the airshow zooming over super duper loud but I can't prove it. This morning there wasn't hardly anybody there and I got to go to the spot I originally wanted to go the day prior. I saw lots of critters but none to shoot at. I saw my first otter from the saddle and lots and lots of birds of all various shapes and sizes. Owls tweetie birds, ducks, herons, ibis, eagles, coots, lumpkins, redwing blackbirds, grackles, etc. I didn't see anything to shoot at and got down and walked and walked and wasn't seeing squat. At 1 point I was getting close to a flag pond out in the pines and something was shaking the tar outta a bush. I wanted it to be a buck making a rub but more realistically it probably a hog...either way I never saw what was shaking the bushes. I ended up bailing on that area I hunted pretty much all day cause I wasn't finding anything. I feeling pretty discouraged and tired. Walked about 6 miles after getting down out of the morning tree. I ended up going to an area I had an encounter with a doe during the archery hunt. I couldn't find any tire or boot tracks other than my own so I figured nobody been in there. The road was covered in hundreds of tracks and acorns everywhere. I found an area that had 6 or 7 rubs all of varying ages. I was pretty confident this evening but nothing. I'm not able to go tomorrow cause of the vehicle situation.
