The red squirrel climbing aider

Only if you insist on using the Kong Duck ;)

What ascender are you using? You would have to girth hitch a sling if you were using a ropeman also. What am I missing. I openly admit my brain is not running at full speed at the moment... :tearsofjoy:

Just clip it into the carabiner. same one I clip my bridge into

Got it. I wasn't even thinking about using a biner since I have it on the duck.
I showed the technique to a friend the other day. He used the biner as a handhold where I keep pulling on the rope

That would work. I might need to tinker with my foot loop length but I could make that work.

You would have to girth hitch it to the ascender. An advantage of tying one on with webbing is that you can tie it to a length that is fit right for you.
Could you use a carabiner on your ropeman to the sling ? Thanks for all your help . I'm almost 59 years old and have been saddlehunting for a longtime but I haven't ever used an aider until I tried the WildEdge but your systems seems alot easier. Thanks for bearing with me with all these questions.

going to give this a run Wed & Thurs using the aider clipped into a Petzel William on a Ropeman. I made the aider longer - it's about 54" - my thought being trying to get the caribiner as high up the tree as possible and using it as a hand hold to pull myself up instead of grabbing the rope. I'm just a fraction shy of 6'. Did a garage test on my squat rack and I could pull my foot up about 28 inches with the caribiner at the top of the tether. With a chest high stepp (I used the J hook on the squat rack to simulate) it worked great but the real test will be with gear on. I'm going to do a tree test tomorrow before the hunt Wed. Excited about the idea of getting 5 feet per stepp AND tying the stepp on at chest height is a big win. That will really lighten the load - I've carried 10-12 stepps in every time to date and I'm thinking of going to 7 (5 to climb and 2 additional around top stepp for a platform). Now I need to think of a way to re-purpose the Wild Edge Aider for something useful

Good luck and have fun!

I think that would be the lightest possible mobile setup I've seen so far. Spurs aren't much lighter if any.

The WE Stepps are just shy of 1lb each. That would be 7 lbs for your climbing method AND platform. WOW! I can't think of any public land legal system that light. I was thinking of using 8 stepps since I'm not very tall. 6 to climb and 2 for a platform. 8lbs is lighter than my Muddy sticks WITHOUT my platform!

Awesome! @g2outdoors is on board. Prepare for launch. This method is going to take off.

I'm super stoked to do this - forecast on Wed where I am going is rain - so I will really get a good test run in. I'll post an update from the tree. This thread has really been awesome - some great ideas all meshing together!!

Something got lost here I think. My quote was agreeing that it won't get you higher. As an aside, my aider is just a different way of doing the same thing.

@BassBoysLLP, I have the WE aider. I'll send it to you if you want to try it. But you'll only use it once..
I was wondering if anyone tried the rope tether with a ropeman 1 and attached a WildEdge aider to the ropeman with a carabiner?

All I wanted to make was a runner is this the knot you would use to make the loop to connect to my ropeman and carabiner? Im kind of confused but that's not hard for me to be.
Yes, the overhand on a bight is the knot i used which is shown at that link. That is the knot I use to make the loop which I connect to my ascender like you want to do.

I thought about that too since I already had it but couple of issues I saw were a) its bulky to carry in vs webbing, b) it has metal c) it has a lot of memory - meaning after taking it out of a bag folded up it does not relax out very well so finding your foot loop is a pain

Hay Red thanks for your patience on all theses questions that I had . It's really appreciate it.
