Tree Spurs!!

There is always the option of a steel, carbon fiber, etc insert if comfort is an issue.

Insole for boot and yes you can forgo your standard platform for spurs. Only issue is you have a tendency to stick if your sitting for a while.

Are people using post or tree gaffs?

I seen a video where the guy says pole gaffs are more comfortable and should be enough to climb the vast majority of trees

If you want one set buy tree, otherwise have both and pick the best for the tree.

Flingin what are you using for a flip line

7' of New England High Vee rope with sewn eye splice on one side and ropeman1 ascender on the other. For the size trees I hunt it works good. It's fairly stiff so it's easy to get up the tree

eBay. Look for Molle dump pouches there's a ton on there for around $8

Perfect. Thanks a ton. I've been searching for those for a while now. Just didn't have the correct search terms I guess.

If you have a plan for your spurs once you remove them then you will be fine. Just carefully remove one at a time and hang it on a hook. Works for me.
seems like if one connected a rope to both of them before taking them off, then that would be a safe way to do it. Sort of like being connected to the tree the entire time, same concept.

Good info in this thread.

Oh **** Jimmy, I forgot. Life around her gets really hectic. I have two little ones. One and two years old and it's amazing I remember my name sometimes.

Let me see if I can get my wife to help on that tonight.

No worries, I was just making sure you didn't forget. I know how life can get with children and the like.

To those who do...
What is your safety rig up when you do this? LInesman's belt, tether, both?
Any issues with the spikes clinking around on screw in steps?

Once you find out what is clinking bring out the tape. I just wrapped all my metal on metal connections with electrical and duct tape and mine don't make any noise now.

I also free climb the tree. Find some trees with cover. Use branches to stand and for extra safety. Nobody wants a straigh branch less tree unless your in a climber. Perks of not using one. Find a tree with cover and you have safety from falling and...well cover
