any chance on someone making a full length instructional video, on how to climb with spurs without ever becomming unattacted to the tree (ie getting around branches) then how they would rappel down? This is sounding too good to be true. If I would only carry some ropes my bow and a fanny pack I would be in heaven.

Thanks in advance.
I can do that. Which method of repelling would you prefer? I have a grigri and a figure 8 style friction brake, but can also show a drt rappel with just knots if you prefer

Thanks for the fast reply ernie.I watched your video with the linemans rope but had a hard time following as the camera was far away. I will re wtach a few times.

I dont know the difference between a grigri and firgure 8. I guess which ever is fastest and safest. I knew nothing about tree spurs before I cliocked on thsi thread which is now going to cosy me upwards of $500.
Haha! WelCome to saddle hunTing. Spurs are the way to go in my opinion. I'm thinking I have some videos showing the basics already on YouTube. I'll double check. The way I do it, you use the same piece of rope to climb, as bridge, lineman belt, tree tether, then I use the grigri2 to descend. I'll check on the video and post another link if I think it's what you're looking for
.
I also use Klein spurs with the big buck pads. They're a little heavier than the others, (especially Ernies carbon ones - wow, those would be sweet) but I've never felt like they were heavy. It's by far the easiest, fastest, quietest method I've tried. And I've tried a lot.
I still use sticks, screw steps, strap steps, stepp ladder steps, and others sometimes, but the spurs are versatile. I put the spur sheath on and go. Walking through the woods with them takes a little getting used to before you can be quiet, but it isn't hard either

You tie a piece of paracord to the loop on the end(the one you pull the rope through to get it to cinch right) and then pull the cord when you get to ground. It pulls the rope out of the loop and will fall to ground. Sometimes I leave my rope in the tree if I'm planning to come back soon. If I'm not, then I'll tie paracord to the rope and leave both ends hanging long enough to tie the rope back onto and pull through the next time I use that tree. If you hunt the same areas often, pretty soon you'll have cord in all your trees and can pull the rope up quickly before you climb. That way, you can use spurs (or ascenders to rope climb) and be tied off to your tether all the way up the tree

^^^^^^^ the other option is to carry more rope and use a dual rope with a Blake's hitch or similar to get down. I bought 60 feet of 6 mm climbing line and it stores in a molle water bottle holder. I figure for 30 feet or less, I'll be fine. Anything more than that will just take two tries. Since I am using spikes I don't worry about leaving parachord anymore.

If you can climb it, usually you can get the rope down. Every once in a while the loop will snag a branch perfectly. At that point, you swear, ascend, and recover

I bet a spliced end loop would eliminate that problem ;)

were you able to get out Ernie?

And btw, I've been using the big buck pads on my Klein's since the beginning of last deer season. I tried to like them, and they are more supportive, but they were just too big, so since I made this video I've gone back to using the tpads. They're plenty comfy and way smaller.

are you guys using rubber boots with spurs?
I've used my Mucks with little issue. I personally find standing on screw in steps more uncomfortable than spurs with good pads.
