XOP/Ameristep combo

Looks awesome, how much does it weigh? Other dimensions? What's the threaded hole for? Platform angle adjustment?
The weight of the platform (including post, hardware, six point brackets, and stick talons, is 4lb 2.5oz. I don't remember the weight of just the post. The threaded hole is for the bottom stick talon.

I tried the step on my strong side and found it to be too low on the platform strap. I did raise my strap since then. Maybe I need to revisit this.

Looks like a pretty good setup, did you build the stick brackets as well?

They're stick talons from Bryan Landry (mobilhuntinggear website) customized for this platform post design.

Put it to the test at ground level yesterday and hunted from it today. Worked great. Now if I can just get some practice w my spurs I’ll be all set!

Do you thread the strap through the buckle at hunting height? I notice the larkshead on both sides of the strap.

I did some more ground level tests tonight as well. These pics are all taken after a rock solid cam over and setting the ameristep by standing on it.

Yes that’s what I did. Wasn’t bad, I’m sure there is a better way. I liked the Amsteel loop idea but haven’t done it yet. I put the ameristeps pushed tight to the one side and did a quick loop knot so they wouldn’t bang or fall off during the walk in.

The pic I took at ground level I also stood on the steps to set them.

It's not perfect. Perfect would be if there was somehow a versa button type attachment on the seat. But it still works pretty well, and once it's clipped in the strap and buckle works awesome for quickly fine tuning for perfect tension.

I know one thing for sure, I do not want to put my trust in that tab on the seat. I’d rather larks head it and have to thread it each time.

just looking at pics, what if you ran a longer adjustment bolt through a versa button...right there in the center.
Would there be enough room/would the platform cam over?

On the leveling bolt? I’m not sure it would have the cam effect of the anchor point is there. Because where it is no larks onto it the strap gets pulled away from tree as you cam it. I’m not sure you would get the same extension.

yeah the level bolt. I don't know, those last side pics of the girth hitches doesn't look like its any farther out than the button would be. Id give it a shot if ya got a button just to see

Thinkin on it more I wonder what the stress would be on that bolt.....I guess it would be the same as any other hang-on platform though?

Good ideas here. Not that I understand all the terms yet.

Where are those Ameristeps available? Not shown on the web site. Do they still make them?

No longer made but they pop up in classifieds here and eBay from time to time. Make sure you get the non recalled ones. $15-20 a step is what they go for.
