How have you modified the predator?

Planning to airbrush mine when its warm enough for good adhesion. I also thought about changing that bracket but doubt I will.

Thanks @Slipnslide for the inspiration. Had my 2 year old help me out so it’s a little blotchier and less detailed (especially in the tight spots) than I’d like but thinking of him every time I step on it will be well worth it. And it still looks pretty sweet I do believe.

Started with the primer

Added the truck bed liner.. agreed with the later comments in this thread and probably wouldn’t do this again

Then attacked with a sea sponge

Dang! Looks good! What colors did you use???? Y'all did a great job!

not sure if they mentioned it, wrap the buckle in bicycle innertube, stops the clanking.

The exact colors Slipnslide recommended. Dude nailed it. I put down the primer first and then coated with the bed liner. Like I said before, I don't think the bed liner is necessary but I would get just a black layer down as a base. I think having it down first made it easy to get the camo as light as I wanted it to be by using the remaining colors to cover the black. This is the bed liner I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003CT49AS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then we alternated between the rest of the colors and using the primer for white

Primer/white: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006ZKMKSO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Brown: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Y0N2NFS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Fossil: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BWORX6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Coastal Gray: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0716BJL2S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Painted the letters with some orange I had laying around and then clear coated after everything dried

This is my setup so far. Just wanted to try and copy the moss that seems to be on every tree I hunt..

Never thought of switching brackets. Might give that a try. And the ameristep on the strong side seems like a great idea!

Any fix for the buckle? Mine seems to stick a lot, and can only imagine what it will be like in cold weather.

This is probably the best paint job I have seen. SWEET!!!

looks great! guess I am just going to spatter black on mine and roll with it. Thanks to your pic I now know how I am going to pack the cinch strap! Is there anyway to permanently attach the strap on one side of the button? I was thinking maybe a zip tie? With it being loose on both sides I see me getting to the top then dropping the strap. LOL!

Also what is the difference in the gen 1 predator and the gen 2 predator?

Yep, time and weather. I clear coat anything I paint. Then let it sit. Or put it in the lake. Or mud. (Unless it's stealth stripped, then it just stays on a tree). About to start on my sticks and predator now, gonna try and replicate some camo patterns (like the deer will care, huh?!)

How come you put gear in the lake or mud? To neutralize scent?

Got the minor details perfected on my predator painted it wrapped the majority in camo vet wrap, put a bicycle tire inner tube around the buckle and put a small piece of shock

cord on one end of the strap to help keep it wrapped around the platform

Finally found some time to paint my platform. I just need to clear coat and reassemble. Thanks for everyone's input on this thread. I used alot of helpful tips. I'm pretty happy with the turnout.

Thanks!

1. First I used a black 2 in 1 primer
2. Then "khaki" (the lettering on the post is also khaki)
3. The post and outside edge of the platform is "weathered wood"
4. After that I used all 5 colors and the G2 sponge painting method.
5. Clear coat with ultra flat satin finish.

Im happy with the colors especially the weathered wood. I got that tip from this same thread (thank you for the recomendation @Slipnslide.)

I decided to keep the deck I stand on one solid color. Its just easier for my eyes to find footing rather than have it blend in too much.

Dry time before reassembling is important. I got a little impatient. So allow extra time to dry and you will be happier in the end.
