Where the skys are so blue!
I want another rimfire rifle. Had a model 93 savage in .22 mag a few years ago that I sold because it just didn't shoot well.

Do I want to try that caliber again, or go with a .17 HMR or WSM. Anybody have great results off of a particular platform? Kinda want to try one of those Savage b-mags.

The 22 mag has accuracy potential but very loose specs and finding the right ammo for your gun can be challenging especially during ammo shortages. The only 17 hmr’s I have seen that didn’t shoot well were a couple mossberg rifles owned by one family and I’ve seen a few go to shooting bad because of poor cleaning practices. Not the neglect of not cleaning but damage to crowns from trying to push instead of pull. That’s a small barrel.

Buy a cooper or a Jackson squirrel

Just googled that. Here I was thinking you didn't wear clothes 'cause you was dirty-minded. In reality, it's because you spent all your clothes money on a squirrel rifle!

That's a nice gun. I doubt I'll ever be able to afford more than my CZ, sadly. Maybe one day.

Good to know. I may try a hmr. I want it mainly to hog hunt on WMAs that only let you use small game weapons during squirrel season.

I think a .22 mag might do better for that due to its larger mass, but the .17s seem to have better ammo availability. And having one might be nice for late season when you want a tall-timber-treerat-tumbler on your shoulder.

I owned a savage bmag in 17 WSM. It was a pretty accurate gun and super light. It did have a chincy feel but I never had any functioning issues. The WSM 17 is definitely superiors to the 17 HMR in ballistics. Ammo availability may be an issue. I bought mine to help a farmer with his federal sand hill crane crop damage permit. I shot cranes out to 200 yards with it. The gun did well. I sold it because I moved away and I didn't need it anymore.

I owned a savage 17hmr a while back. Not bad accuracy but never great. Sent it to a gun smith and it didn't help at all. Had a buddy buy a savage hmr also and it had random missfires. I suppose we just both got lemons but I wouldn't get an hmr again. Just my 2 cents

I have a savage 17hmr. I absolutely love it. It stays in my truck year around if it got stolen I would buy the exact gun the same day. I can hold a golf ball size pattern at 165 yards... I have killed everything from squirrel to coyotes with it it's all about shot placement. Just my 2 cents I'll take the hmr over a 22mag or 22lr any day off the weekScreenshot_20190909-123455.png

Look at Walmart the had the savage A17 on clearance if you find one you will get it for about 1/4 of what they normally sell for.
I have a cz 22 mag and a 17 WSM b mag both will shoot better than me. You will be head shooting from 100 yds I take them to Saddleplooza every year but haven’t killed a pig with either yet. I bought both of them specifically for pigs and wanting to hunt the rimfire zones.
Edit : looks like they are sold out all over they were marked down to $99 crazy cheap.

There may be one in Winder, Georgia. Tallahassee, Fl

Titusville, fl has 3 but they are only marked down to $299

What’s your zip code?

Nice, boyds stock and all.

Why specifically rimfire? why not a .22 hornet(center fire i know)? higher velocity, and like 2x the lead weight.

I have a Ruger 77/17 that I love. Supper accurate and fun to shoot. I also like the looks of the CZ 457 American but have not put my hands on one.

I’m a CZ snob, with a 452 in 17hmr and a 455 in 22mag. But I’m thinking about the Savage Bmag in 22 LR. Excellent reviews and very reasonable in cost. Can’t beat it with a stick

I want a CZ, they seem like super nice rifles
CZ makes good rifles, but I wouldn't call them high end. It's just that most manufacturers (bafflingly) make rimfire for $200ish. You can only get so much quality out of that budget. A good CZ will run you double that, but will actually be a nice rifle.

As much as I plink and squirrel hunt, it made sense to get a rifle I really enjoyed. I don't regret it a bit.
