What are gear are you using for ascent and decent?

One stick mini with a 2 step aider for ascending. My tether for ascension is a 8’ OpLux tether with a Beal jammy cut and tied in a Distel hitch. Descending/rappel is a 36’ OpLux, Madrock Safeguard, a Beal jammy as an autoblock backup. Yes the OpLux is out of spec of the Safeguard.

Very interested in how the Safeguard does on the Oplux... Keep us posted.

Are you hanging/hunting from the Safeguard, or switching over to it only for the rappel?

If you think about how the rope runs through an assisted belay device it is the same as an ATC. I think you could run it completely unassisted if using an autoblock backup. I use my Madrock Lifeguard with 8mm rope just holding the tag end by my hip when rappelling. When locked it stays locked so far. If I ascended RADS I just leave the rope in place and add a tether.

I have a question, probably @DanO is the only one with enough to answer. How many feet of oplux could you get in a SYS ES or similar size dump pouch with a figure 8 knot?

This is 35 ft with figure 8 for rappelling, a 7 ft linesman and 7 ft tether with figure 8s, 3 caribiners, Ropeman 1, and a Madrock Safeguard in there together. Oh yea, and a sewn loop tubular tether with an Austrialpin release buckle. Didn't put them in, but my knaider/swaider will also fit on top. This Oplux is truly awesome! The ES will hold even more.

I would use the Kong Duck if you are going to be using a 8mm rope with a mechanical ascender.

I'm a huge fan of Dano. But Wild edge offers a sewn eye oplux which could save you a knot

I just ordered a prusik tender from Dano. Hope this makes it possible to make one handed adjustments. Really like to hear more about this from people that have tried it.
Will you use this 8mm rope as a tether, LMB or both?
Thanks, Tom

I run oplux for my tether and linesman belt when I use one. I pair it with a Kong duck. I honestly prefer a ropeman 1 over a duck but I like oplux so much I can live with using a duck. It's so compact and convenient to use.
you have a kong on each line?

I’ve been wanting to ditch my Tethrd lineman’s belt and tether for a while now. I also have two ropemans and 3 of the Wild Country carabiners. I never liked the sheath on the ropes, the biners seemed big compared to my Black Diamonds and the ropemans, although convenient, seemed unnecessary. I just placed an order from DanO for 3 Mad Rock Super Tech Biners, 20’ of Oplux, and 2 Beal Jammies. I think this is going to be a simpler and smaller package overall.
How/where did you place this order?
Thanks
