8mm Oplux questions & uses

Looks like the sterling trc 6mm is impossible to find sold by the foot. Did you guys just buy a spool?

I called sterling directly and ordered mine by the meter, 10m cost me around $40 by the time I paid shipping (way to high). Be patient as I think @DanO may have an option for you guys soon. I would assume ordering through him will be more economical anyway.

@TheTracker , @mtsrunner , or Anyone else know of a company that will offer 24" sewn Eye and Eye's that will work on the 8mm Oplux?
After switching over to the Schwabisch a couple years ago, would like to continue with it. @DanO ?

Pull down rope for rappel works much better if connected to the tag end of your rappel rope. Where I circled in green.

I’m sure there are many ways it can work. I’d issue cation pulling the tag end through first if you have to pull the figure 8 knot back through a tree crotch on the way down like I’m doing for SRT. In that case I’d highly recommend attaching it how I have it pictured.

On s slick trunk I’d assume your method would work fine.

For setting the rope, tag end first is an excellent recommendation.

I'll do some checking. I'm having some sewn eye tethers made up so I'll see if they can do some eye & eyes for OpLux.

There is so much more you can do whipping a heavy piece of rope around. Not so much with a piece of paracord.

has anyone used sterling hollowblock on oplux as a prusik? i was considering this or the 9mm sterling that danO sells with the sterling hollowblock. any input on this combo would be appreciated.

For those of you using the 8mm oplux as a bridge, how is it holding up? Any sort of memory being shown on the rope?

Sterling Hollowblocks should not be used as primary life support connection, it states it on the manual. I called Sterling also and they more or less said it is intended to be used as an autoblock.

Dito on what's been said above. Intended use for the hollowblock is in the autoblock configuration as a backup on rapel. For anyone concerned about using the hollowblock as intended should watch this video. Climbing professional using the autoblock in condition I would consider WAY past it's prime. However, she is using it backed up.

thanks for the info. that's the kind of info i was looking for. i think i will lean towards the beal jammy as my prussik cord for oplux and 9mm sterling rope. thanks.

Just about any 6-7mm prusik cord will work on the 9mm Sterling. I've tried quite a few on 9mm HTP and haven't found one that doesn't work well.

I did it...lol..the $$addlehuntingDIYaddiction.

Has anyone ascended with the oplux, I see my Petzl ascender is rated for 8mm.
