what kind of permethrin are you using?

Horrible, hate to read this.

I also use the stuff from Tractor Supply (the concentrate). Not sure if it's petroleum based or not but I don't recall having a smell afterwards. I'll check when I get home.

I'm looking to save some $$$ over Sawyers but it seems Martin's is the only one recommended, and between the petroleum and lack of specific uses matching my requirements spelled out here

https://www.controlsolutionsinc.com/product-labels/

I reluctantly had to go with 2 more bottles of Sawyers to top off my supplies.

I did Martins for a few years. Bought 2 large bottles of sawyers this spring instead because of the smell when sawyers is still wet..... I will be going back to Martins as soon as this last bottle is empty. It is significantly more expensive for me to spray my clothes with Sawyers than it is to soak my clothes through with Martins. I have noticed a drastic reduction in length of time a coating is effective since switching, probably due to the application method change.

I much prefer to deal with a little curing smell, and using an item out of it’s labeled use than getting a tick or two imbedded before I realize my clothes need a reapplication. I had bugs crawling on me after only 3 uses in the field (2 washings) with the spray on Sawyers, and I find that unacceptable.

I am not trying to sell gamehide (just bought some of their clothes. Will try them next weekend when I post a couple hundred acres in thick stuff). They have good reviews and the treated clothes last for 70 washings.

I got an email about a fall kickoff sale. There is coupon code, FALL2019, for 20% off (came out yesterday).

I just got so tired of the whole application process every few weeks. If it works as it should, I think it will be worth the price.

Bringing up an old post.... I'm about to spray down and my bottle of sawyers will be empty. Trying to get the water or petroleum conversation started back up. What did you use this season and how it worked? I was leaning toward the water based stuff....but the sawyers sure does work good and it definitely has petroleum products in it.
I am wanting to get away from the store bought and get a concentrate

I've used Martin's concentrate and diluted it myself. It has a slight odor after first application and drying, so I'm not sure it's the best choice for hunting clothes if you're deer hunting. However, I didn't notice much of a smell after a washing, but disclaimer that my sense of smell isn't very good.

The odor paled in comparison to a concentrate with petroleum distillates I used once. Putting those clothes on indoors would give me a head ache.

No side effects on humans with any of this? Most permethrian I've seen says do not allow contact with skin I thought.

Would it be better to go to a stronger % of permethrian?
Found this

I bought some concentrate, it’s damn near a lifetime supply, come by the house and fill up your bottle and see if you like the martins I have

So plenty of people use Permethrin, but I did see an article a little while back on a study that tentatively linked its use to to some increased risks. However, I can't find the article now so I may be misremembering details.

Personally, I will keep using Permethrin. Lyme disease and alpha gal allergy is no joke.

What are you guys using for mixing ratios to dilute your permethrin? Does the concentrate come w/ diluting recommendations? I'm not too concerned w/ smell since I primarily need help warding off ticks during turkey season (but don't necessarily want a terrible odor). I get hammered by ticks BAD in the spring, so I'm hoping soaking my clothes will help.

The concentrate has different uses, so there are different mixing ratios.
Mixing directions are on the jug.

Ben's 100 it is 95% DEET. I don't use if for deer season but for turkeys. A little goes a long way. I have had the same bottle since the 1980's. I put a drop on each pant leg, the top of my boot, a drop on the end of each shirt sleeve, a drop on each shoulder, and a drop on the bill of my cap and on each side and the back. I also put one drop on the top "bottom" of my cap. I've never had a tick on me while using this and it is great for mosquitos and black flies. It seems to work pretty well all day. Lately I've used the thermacell more and I like that for skeeters too.

I have that. It does have a long lasting odor but its great for spraying buildings, work clothes, etc.
For hunting clothes, why not just send them to Insect Shield. Lifetime protection, no odor. They charge by the pound.

Gonna have to check out sending clothes for permanent treatment
