Ive been having issues with getting comfortable and consistant with my wrist sling release, and been contemplating upgrading my release to a hand held, but i dont have 200 to spend on a nock2it or similar of the top end releases. ive been looking at getting the Tru Ball Max Hunter. does anyone have experience with this release?

link to my local archery shop product for this release

I’ve been considering a similar thing. Would be interested in feedback here too.

I don’t have experience with that one but I do have this guy. Was my first thumb release so don’t have too much to go off of but it’s way better than wrist release.

I have been using the truball max pro4 for a few years now and really like it. It is decently priced and has not had any mechanical issues with hundreds if not thousands of shots. I looked at the max hunter and decided to go with the pro 4. I had a buddy buy the max hunter but after trying my cheap ebay(Chinese) pro 4 clone he actually prefers the cheap one now. He plans on buying a pro 4 when he can afford one.

Go with a pro 4 I think you'll like it and wont regret going that route.

I shot the Truball Chappy Boss years ago for hunting I still shoot it every once in awhile . Thumb releases are good but they aren't for everyone. Go to a local archery shop and see what they have. They should let you try some different releases. I went back to my Carter Quickie wrist strap I just like it.

they have a limited range of releases available to try, and all of them are wrist style

I used a Max pro 4 for years and liked it. Recently switched to a hot shot vapor because I prefer 3 finger more and I like the larger thumb barrel trigger. Will say Tru ball has great customer service as well. Built right here in Virginia.

i found a hot shot vapor online for a good price and decided to try that route instead.

i stopped by the archery shop and they actually dont even have the tru balls in stock, even though their online inventory says they have 5 in store, so i didnt get to try one out first, but the vapor is one ive been looking at as well.

Sweet. One thing I like more about the Vapor is you can rotate the thumb barrel so instead of it being locked perpendicular to your thumb you can turn it. You'll see what I mean when you get it. If you don't like the vapor should be able to flip it pretty easy.

I recently purchased the Hot Shot Vapor and love how quite it is. I too went from a wrist release to handheld (will be first season with the handheld release). I say buy the Hot Shot Vapor (3 or 4 finger). For under $100 its a super quite adjustable release and well worth the money.

Glad to hear good things about this release, with it being my first venture into a release other than my caliper wrist release. releases seem way more complicated than they need to be. For the price I paid for the vapor vs what I was expecting to pay for a truball, I'm already halfway to saving for my Magnus broadheads as well.

I am kicking my self right now. My vapor came in yesterday, and I should have made the switch to a handheld instead of trying to figure how to make the wrist release work sooner.

It added ½" to my draw, allows me to be able to anchor where I need more comfortably, my accuracy difference is noticable.

Truball trex is a great handheld release. Just settle the thumb peg under your thumb and point your index finger at the target. The release will rotate and fire without you moving your thumb. Just try it. It will work with any thumb firing release.

i went to a thumb release for a couple days and SWORE my bow coincidently was out of tune and there was no way all my arrows were hitting the same little group 5 inch right and 2 in low. exchanged it back for my old trufire max hardcore and went back to bullseye. i wanted to like it but i was torquing something ALOT even though it felt perfect. i will say i loved the draw with a handheld. i felt way stronger on my draw. with my hardcore i have enough adjustability i dont sacrifice any draw length. maybe if i had a longer D loop it would have helped my grouping

I've kinda been wondering about that twist in the d loop as well, because the d loop is vertical and so is the grabber part of the release it kinda twists the d loop slightly.

That extra ½ to my draw really helped with the finding my proper anchor point when converting over

Check this out if you haven’t. He talks about the twist. I’m about to order some of the #23 d loop string to see if it’s that much better. My d loop is 3/4” now and thinking will go to the 1”

Thank you I've kinda been looking for info on this, I'll give it a watch after a bit
