Kill my first deer

That’s it. The entirety of my goals. I only have 1 acre of Huntsville private land and I’m already agonizing over what public areas I want to scout. I only get one travel weekend to hunt so I have to make it count. This will be my third season hunting and I have zero to shoe for it so far. I need a mentor.

Maybe you can get some advice and help from some guys around your area of Wisconsin on here.

@peteherbst
@NikoTheBowHunter
@bhuntin
@smerch79
@Jokerswild

Anyone interested in helping a new guy learn the ropes?

Where you located at, @sconnieman? I’m not sure I’d be the best mentor for ya since I feel like I’m still learning quite a bit, but I’d be willing to learn with ya.

Burlington. I’ve hunted as far north as portage. Was looking to head into the driftless this year or take my chances in marathon county.

10/4 we’re a little over an hour away from each other. I mainly hunt around my house on public in Jefferson County since I have 3 kids, 1 of which is a 3 month old. So traveling is out of the cards for me.

Shoot me a PM. Let’s take a look at some maps. I also may have a few areas in mind down by you that I might be able to suggest.

kill a public land buck is pretty much my only goal and get to explore alot more public ground. Honestly I'd like to get to hunt as much as I'd like, but with 2 kids at home I know that wont happen lol

@Nutterbuster if ya can't get that mallard and want to make a trip to Arkansas just holler.

As of now military cant travel outside of 150miles, so I can't do any of my out of state hunts. So my goal is to get a few does around FL and maybe luck out on a legal buck. Overall goal till covid lifts=fill the freezer, if covid lifts=a >3.5 year old buck.

Last year was my first year in a saddle, and I'm still fine tuning my system:
1. Utilize one sticking/rappelling in addition to LWHC from last year.
2. Going back to public land. Hope to harvest my first public buck of my adult life.
3. Bought a JX3 last February, and I love it. Looking forward to using it as my saddle, backpack, and meat hauler. It was a great ground seat last turkey season.
4. I'm currently reading John Eberhart's "Bowhunting Pressured Whitetails" and plan to incorporate his tactics - scent control in particular.
5. Last year, my eyeglasses really bothered me from trying to fall off my head while climbing/descending or fogging up with a mask. Once I feel comfortable going to the eye doc (Covid), I'm going to look into contacts for hunting.

You may want to look at the mil travel restrictions again. I’m also mil and can travel to any “green” state.

Got that, I should have said my command since its command specific, but i'm at a flying training command and all of us pilots have to stay within 150 miles. We have a one-star in charge and he has put the hammer down.

Pretty sure it’s not Tyndal...they’re still rebuilding from the hurricane

Roger, wasn't sure if they were back up. Been a minute since I've been down that way. I did kill my first buck on Tyndal back in the day...
