Hello to all,

Disclaimer, I'm still not a saddle convert yet. Been reading alot about it and watching alot of video. Still not convinced that I'm able to sit in a saddle for hours comfortably. Also a father of 4 (latest and FINAL one just a few weeks old) so time and budget are in short supplies right now. I have a Lone Wolf sit and climb that has been dependable. But this year I will also bring up a climbing harness and a sit-drag to split my time in the tree. So maybe for Christmas I'll ask Mrs. Claus for a Tethrd Phantom or something for next season.

A little about myself. late 30s, grew up in Los Angeles but then the Army took me to a few places. Wife is from Maryland so when I left the military 2 years ago we setup root in central Maryland. Lots of farms and public lands. I was a rifle hunter but randomly tried my father-in-law's bow and I am now in love with bow. Got myself a nice used Mathews Creed. What nice is that bow season is so much longer plus you can practice more without hassle and cost of guns. With my first responsibility to my family, I'll be lucky to find 4-5 days the whole year to hunt. Most public lands in my area only allow bows anyway. Good luck to everyone for the upcoming season.

Bucketlist in no order:
Elk
Bear
Mule Deer
Moose
Wolf
An out of country trip

Welcome from Massachusetts! I'm also a father of four, but mine are grown. Family first, bow hunting from a saddle a very close second. It's a blast, I know when you get into it you'll love it.

Great introductory post. Glad you found this community - Welcome from CT!

Welcome from Missouri! Your gonna love it. I had same thoughts when I started and it is more comfortable than you would ever expect!! Be prepared to get ADDICTED!!! Good luck.

Yep bow season in Central MD is a lovely thing. I hunt 100% public and never have trouble finding deer. If you need any help or want to test/borrow any equipment let me know. I got extra everything!

Thank you for the generous offer! Im going to be out in the wood for opening day September 11! I have never hunt this early before. Got a Thermacell. Im going to be ok with sitting still in 70-80 weather hopefully. I might ask for some tips in pm. Dont want you to burn or reveal your sanctuaries.

Good call on the thermacell, for September hunts its a must have. You may already know this stuff but the best advice I could give would be to get your free central region hunting permit so you can hunt the wma's and cwma's. Most require a reservation but that means there's never too many people, 99% of hunts I won't see a hunter except in the parking lot . And pay the 35 bucks and get your managed hunt permit. That will get you more opportunities to hunt public without the sun coming up and you have 8 hunters in all the trees around you. Patapsco valley is full of different hunting areas that open up at different points in the season and its BOW ONLY! Max limit to hunters there too but its first come first serve instead of reservations. And if sundays are your thing, Cecil County has some decent sized parcels of public to poke around. Later in the season when it gets dark earlier I have to get in my hunt time mostly on the weekends. I still hunt before work sometimes but that wears you down quick haha.
If u only had 4 or 5 days to hunt I would hunt opening day, and nov 7,8, or 9, and then mid january on the coldest days we get. And bring the kids to scout in before hunts so you can be on fresh sign!

Thats as much as I'm willing to burn publicly lol. Pm me for anything else
