Team 6!

Maybe this will bring me better luck.

Last deer heart and back strap in the freezer going on the grill.

Better late than never. Up at deer camp all weekend prepping for season and did a salmon drift Sunday night on the way home. Had dragon ass all day at work today but I am officially ready .... standwise anyways. Had to adjust 4 of my sets to deal with the logging that happened this offseason. Seems like a never-ending story in my neck of the woods. Great for the deer in the long run but plays hell with my September.

I hunt public land in Lake County, Michigan. Our season starts Oct 1 but my spots won't heat up until the second weekend. Very little sign at my stand locations right now but add hunting pressure and they will come ..... can't wait.

Went scouting today in some Public bottomland. Nothing, I mean no sign of anything not even squirrells. Weird. On Topo it looks like a dream area. Im not sure Im hitting Public correctly and definitely late to the game. I guess Im scouting it like I scout Private and thats my problem. Honestly Im grasping at straws at this point. And I got a week and a half before the opener.
I may just have to stick with the one area I bumped those does and go from there. One thing is for sure, I may not add a lot of points to our team but it wont be from lack of trying! Should be able to add 10 points anyway.
Good luck to everyone and most of all, be safe.

Do the best you can! Its about the experience. Knowledge will come with every missed opportunity and every opportunity that works well. This is my first season hunting almost exclusively Public. If you lived close enough to me I would invite you to hunt with me on my stomping grounds.

Thanks man! I do have another WMA an hour away as well as the other one. I may try it out but I havent even stepped foot on it. They do AG on it though so as it looks like the Acorns are a bust this year, Ag may be the ticket.

The WMA im hunting has no Ag but the white oaks were loaded late August the last time I scouted. It also boarders a big club that has no shortage of feeders and plots, but, doesn't look like good bedding from satellite images. Im hoping for at least one quality buck but expecting to fill the freezer with quality does!

Nice! Good luck to you!

You're probably right! My memory is crap, my apologies. I'm ready to go!

Yeah my memory is too. Except when it comes to hunting spots!

Last year was my first real attempt at public and It was humbling. Looking forward to targeting some new areas. Have some private to hunt also. I’ll probably split my time evenly. Our nearby public is more hill country than I’m used to so it’s learning public and hill country all at once.

Honestly this year my view is to not be so hard on myself and over analyze everything but get back to having a little more fun. I got a nice spot scouted on public for opening weekend. Good luck everyone!
