Team 6!

Damn, losing 2 decent spots. My buddy went up yesterday to put up a couple of stands and ran into a logging crew setting up a landing in his parking spot. They marked this area 6 years ago and it is all junk wood. I thought maybe it was not worth cutting. New chipboard plant an hour north has increased the demand for lumber .... any lumber by the looks of it. OSB sheeting is sky high so good for them ..... a big job source for the local community. It is an oddly shaped area they have to cut and I think they will need a couple of landings. My sets are at the far end so maybe I will get a few hunts in.

Best I have on camera at this location. Not a monster but legal. Most years he would get a pass. This year, knowing what I know, if he gives me a chip shot it might be all over for him.

Dang. Hate that for you brother. Hopefully they will be a while before going in. I like that tall rack on that buck.

It's Ok .... not the end of the world. Been a consistent area over the last couple of decades. Taken a few decent bucks. Things change and you have to roll with the punches .............. it's the nature of public land. I will favor this spot early this year on evenings with SW wind. It might turn out to be a great late season spot if they leave the tops. Just have to adjust to the conditions.

@Bowhunter5262 How did your sit go last night?
All went well except the deer didn't show up. This is ok though because I still had the feeling of accomplishment. Last night was the first time I sat in my diy saddle higher than 2 feet off the ground. And all of my diy gear worked to perfection. I do need to work on keeping my metal parts from touching as much. So there's that. It was an awesome sit with an awesome view. I would have posted from the tree but I had to screenshot all the pics and my service was really crap.

I'm only 12 feet up in theses pics. I didn't want to outclimb the back cover of this swampy creek bottom. And I still wanted shooting lanes to both creeks were all the sign was.

Good stuff man, glad you're happy with your setup and you were able to get a hunt in. The deer not showing is nothing a little persistence won't solve.

Random thought but if you guys haven’t listen to Wired to Hunt episode 152 with Stan Potts check it out. I like his take on the moment of truth. “ slow down, get that pin where it needs to be and hold it, then get that smooth release”. Slow it all down folks. Adrenaline can make you do some silly stuff if you don’t take control of the situation from the start.

Will check it out thanks!

Last week or so I have been practicing my “calm” down method for every practice shot. Just walked in from shooting.

1. Talk to myself to slow down and breath as soon as the animal is spotted
2. Draw bow
3. Get my “target” in sight ring
4a. Close my eyes for split second (long blink)
4b. Take breath (telling my self to breath)
4c. Open eyes and dial in to the sweet spot.
5. Hold... slowly exhale breath... slow release!!

Hopefully practicing it will help just enough in the moment to perform a clean shot.

Decided to hunt a rural area today! Just kidding. Had a few minutes before work takes advantage of me again, so wanted to test my diy gear in the front yard to get more proficient.
