Team 8 ready!!!

Man that looks nice. I wish i was...i just saw a decent buck on my way to pick up my wife from work. I also saw some does in the now brown soybeans, which i thought they were done with for now. I also saw some does in another plot of soybeans this a.m. I might have to sit by some next week.

Well boys I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is this morning I went hunting in the Cincinnati Parks and there’s a dead 9 point about 5 yards from my tree. The bad news is he was there before me and he’s full of maggots! One of the managers of our bow hunting program is on her way out now to take a look at it with me.
I managed to get up in the tree but my back is killing me.

It rained today for the first time in 2 weeks and the temperature this evening was almost 30 degrees cooler than yesterday. I got out this evening and sat in a ground blind in the rain and saw 6 bucks and 3 does! One of the bucks was the BIG BOY! But he walked silently past me at an angle so that I didn't see him until I didn't have a shot. I tried a little grunting, but I don't think he heard me. Either that or he just didn't care. I could have shot 3 of the does and one other (too small) buck. But I'm holding out for the big guy at this location. Oh, and my back is feeling pretty good. I could climb a tree I think. But that ground blind is in a great spot! I'm not sure there's a tree where I need one there. There are some cedars. There are 2 trees I'll assess in the day light. They might work. I'm considering taking tomorrow off. Not sure.

Well guys I missed a decent 8 point tonight. He was 40 yards and I knicked a branch with my arrow. Clean under him so doesn’t feel too bad. He wasn’t a target buck and I’ve never even had him on camera. Good things are coming I’m sure!

Wow, I'm a little late to the party here. To be honest though, I've been hitting the bear bait pretty hard for the last month, ends Monday so my priorities will change soon.
From southeastern New Hampshire, right on the Maine border, so will be hunting both states, also have a hunt scheduled for Missouri in November.
Good luck all, its time to put some venison in the freezer!

Well here is my update. I had the entire first week of the Minnesota Archery season off of work. I hunted a bunch of overlooked areas I always plan to hunt and never do. I couldn't hunt all of them as I had a week straight of 80s temps and south winds. Not exactly the wind I have many places to hunt. I did pass a decent 8 pointer on opening morning. Other than that I didn't have anything close enough to shoot. I did see a bunch of does but no opportunities were presented. I also saw a bunch of hunters. That surprised me as I don't usually see much pressure on public during the week. I saw a LOT of pressure during the week.

It wasn't the most productive week but I do feel I was able to eliminate some locations so that is good. I plan to go out this afternoon. The weather is now in the 50s and there is a NW wind. Hopefully I can put some points on the board for our team.

The season opened today here in NY for me. I may go out by my house if i make it home in time. Otherwise this weekend I will be out mornings and evenings to try to get a deer down.

Very windy here today going to take advantage of it and do a preset with bolts and a electric drill hopefully don’t bust them all out! I expect this set to mainly a rut as it’s between to bedding areas

I made it up a tree because i had too. It is at the top corner of my property and access is easy, through my pasture. The oaks are dropping acorns and it is a pinch point about 60 yds wide and then opening into bigger woods. Looks like nobody is coming through tonight

I went out tonight and set up with strong NNW wind. With about 25 minutes of shooting light left, the wind stopped and a strong thermal pulled my scent to the east. A doe caught wind of me in the swamp and proceeded to blow and blow for the next 25 minutes. This was a new spot for me and I learned what the thermals do when the wind stops. While that doe was blowing at me I figured out a better tree for next time. There was a ton of good deer sign so this area definitely looks promising.

I slipped out for an evening hunt today from a ground blind (no good trees where I’ve seen this buck on the property I have permission). I passed up a doe that walked within 10 yards of my blind.
I could’ve shot a truckload of does already but I haven’t done it because I don’t want to educate the big 10 point I’m after.
I plan to hunt in the morning and one of the Cincinnati Parks. I need to get a doe in the parks.

Had a few hours to get a short hang in tonight. Still just staying on the edges and not diving too far into my property yet. A few good bucks on the cell cams, but just waiting until all is right before I go hang where I have a decent chance at a good one. Got skunked tonight but beautiful evening.
