I have killed a buck in bow season for the past 5 years in a row...
...but still to this day, I have never killed a buck with any type of firearm. I have been hunting for 23 years.
I killed my first deer (doe) with a bow at age 14 from the ground after school one day, and it was 100% luck. I did nearly everything you could possibly do wrong. I took an ill-advised shot and started tracking 15 minutes afterwards. Luckily (for me, not her), she jumped the string, and the broadhead ended up going through her neck and cutting her jugular. The blood trail looked like a horror film murder scene. I found her 50 yards from the shot location.
I killed multiple deer (does) with my bow and a flintlock muzzleloader as a teenager before I ever killed one with a rifle in my 20's.
I love the concept and tradition of gun season, but I hate the hordes of local yokels it brings out of the woodwork.
I hate that my state legalized crossbows. Even though I now own one, and have killed 2 bucks with it, I still hate it. I used to go bowhunting and see NOBODY. Now the woods are almost as crowded as gun season. I understand the point was to expand the sport and allow more people to hunt (women, kids, seniors, etc) in archery season, but I still hate it.
Non-Hunting Confession: I have played baseball my entire life, including in high school and college. For years, guys would try to get me to play on their beer league softball teams. I always said I would never play slow pitch softball - The day I couldn't play "real" baseball anymore, I would be done for good. Well...I have been playing softball now for 5 years and I absolutely love it, haha.
